I bought my 2000 C-5 Vert used. I really don't know and have been wondering. Were the exhaust plates ever a stock option or just came on Vette's stock or are they purely an aftermarket phenomenon? Mine has one and it's one of the things I love most about how it looks! When I see a Vette without one it just looks like it's missing!
How to they attach? If it's not a bolt on connection is it something I should be checking periodically to make sure it isn't getting loose? If it came off I would HAVE to replace it and would probably be pretty mad about not checking it!
They are an aftermarket item and just held on by double sided sticky tape. Some wear out after time and some stay on for years and years.
There's a wide range available offered by many many vendors.
mine has been on without problems for years. the key is to start with a clean mounting surface. do that and it should be stuck there until you forcably remove it
My exhaust plate has a 90 degree bend at the top of the plate. The 90 degree bend has two holes in it that two push clips go through and are clipped to the car. I bought the car like this. It allows me to remove the plate and polish it easily. Hasn't come off in the 18 months I have owned the car.

I found this plate in the accessories at GI Joe a long time ago. My exhaust is different now but I still like this plate. 3M tape has held it solid for years.
I really like the idea of a mechanical mount (ie the bend at the top)
but all I have found are plates that use adhesive.
Can anyone point to a vendor selling the plates that don't use tape?
Thanks - Tom
