Who sells the best paint which lasts the longest?
Which color should I pick for a mill yellow c5? Red or yellow? If yellow I would need a near match to mill yellow. I will get around to powder coating this winter as this is a mere facelift for now
If you go with red I'd use Home Depot's SUNSET RED (Not sure the brand name). Painted mine in '05. They still look as good as the day I did it. They have not chipped, dulled, or lost the luster from potential heat effects. I brushed the paint on; maybe 3 coats or so. Then with a razor blade I easily shaved the paint of the letters. I used brushes from the Artist kit sold at Home Depot. A quality brush is necessary if you don't want to leave any bristles in the paint.
Good luck!

PS. I tried Duplicolor Red but it wasn't the red I was looking for. It seemed a little too deep (dark) for my liking.

I used Folia Tec caliper paint on mine. It is an epoxy based kit that you brush on and when dry, is really durable. Had it on both my '00 (7+ years) and now my '03 (coming up on two years).
Red would, as always, look good on your car, but black with yellow or yellow with black would also be good choices.
I'm going to do mine this winter and was going to buy a "caliper paint kit" I guess maybe I should try the Home depot , way may be a little cheaper.Ron
I guess everything has to do with preparation. How did yall do it? Did yall douse it in brake cleaner and scrub with a tooth brush. I have used Por15 on my 496 for my chevelle and it looks great. Thick epoxy primer and paint they just dont have the color that I need.
As for prep I stripped the calipers down, took out pistons and seals then did a good bath of brake cleaner. THen some scotch brite pads, and a final bath in isopropyl alcohol. Then sprayed 3 coats. I waited 3 days before installing the pistons.
I used Duplicolor red brake paint on my yellow vette. It is supposed to have a ceramic base. The red was a great color. My only complaint was that the paint was a little thin and required 4 coats. I used the brush-on version.
I used the caliper paint kit from Mid America about 9 years ago in torch red to match the car and it worked well. Just make sure you use brake cleaner and clean the calipers really well first.
Will do. Mucho appreciated. I ordered the duplicolor yellow and vht black. We will see how this is gonna come out. If it lasts a couple years thats all I am after. Thanks for all yall replies
Some things I've learned from doing this on three different cars...
If you are painting the bracket the easiest way is to take it off from the car and the caliper and hang it from a wire coat hanger and use a spray on claiper paint. If you've already bought the brush on that wil be fine too.
Always start the first coat thin, just enough to cover the surface a little. Then apply additional coats as needed, never letting the paint fully dry. Usually 10 mins is good.
Cleaning is crutial. The cleaner you can get the caliper the better it will come out and the longer it will last. I used engine degreaser, a wire brush on a dremel, wire brush on a drill for larger areas, steel whool, then once you think you are clean enough to paint wash the calipers with dish washing soap and a spongs to get any drgreaser or metal flakes from the steel whool off.
While your at it with the degreaser, clean the inside of your wheels as well.
Thats what I plan on doing in 2 weeks when I get off. Going put the vette on the rack and pull everything. I should buy me some slotted/drilled rotors and new brake pads but I dont know yet.
