Default I have zero car luck..

I mean, I am not going to sit here and say I have bad luck in general...I feel like in my normal life I have pretty good luck, so maybe it is balanced out by my bad car luck? .

So last year, on my GTO alone in like a 3 months span I had the following:

1) Clutch came apart randomly while driving..I mean literally fell apart. Had to replace clutch and input shaft on tranny
2) Rearend exploded at the track.
3) Lifters turned and took out my cam, cam bearings, and god knows what else...

I ended up just selling it as is to a friend for cheap.

Picked up a '99 FRC which has had zero problems so far, but I have had really bad luck with body damage so far. When I first got it, a rock kicked up and mangled my rocker panel...through the paint, so no buffing will fix it. Got quoted at $450 to fix.

Now just today, I was just driving....and suddenly I see an object just come flying at my car. I didn't see what it was but there was a chopper near me so I thought it may have come off his bike. I flagged him over but we both found nothing out of the ordinary so I just drove off. I am guessing it was just a large rock.

So I guess I am stuck with this bill . My insurance deductible is $500 plus my rates would go up, so I will prob pay out of pocket unless someone has any other advice.

Hard to tell how deep it is, but in that location maybe you could get away with some racing stripes. Painted if it's deep. Vinyl if it's not.

If it was me, I'd cover it up with some nice flat black stripes.

Man, you do have some bad luck. Good idea on maybe putting a set of stripes on the car - cheaper than getting a new paint job if the scratches aren't too deep.

If it was me I'd turn it in to the insurance company. You situation may be different but I would at least talk it over with my agent. It's is fairly obvious that this was unavoidable road hazard, it's not as it you bumped into someone or something. Just my 2 cents.

Yup, you know what...I think that is what I am going to do. The scratches are very deep...I can start peeling off the surrounding paint with my finger nail if I wanted to.

I just cant remember if I have a $500 or $1000 deductible...hopefully it is $500.

I am going to try to throw this repair in too if I do go through insurance...This happened in April but I never went through with any repair.

Other than these two things and the weirdo gas gauge, this car has been amazing .

Ok good...its only the $500. I remember I almost changed to the $1000 when I was on the phone with them, but didn't do it cause it would have only saved me like 5 bucks a month. Good thing I didn't do it...

I have literally never had an insurance claim before...lifetime accident free (10 years of driving). My driving record has been clean since I was 17 too. Do insurance rates ALWAYS increase if you put a claim in?

I would only try to file a claim if you can get it categorized under your comprehensive and NOT collision.

I've filed two claims with StateFarm under comprehensive so still have my accident-free status; one was getting hit by a tire blowout on the highway ($1200) and the other was sucking in water in a flash flood in my '01 Coupe and needing a new engine ($11,000).

They tried to classify both as accidents/collision coverage but I "negotiated" and plead my case and both were switched to comprehensive claims.

Putting in a claim such as this may, or may not affect you, just depends on the insurance company so you might want to ask them. If I were you I would find a body shop and get a quote to see how much to fix if you pay cash...it's hard to tell from the pics but I don't see that costing $500 to fix, and if it isn't then you don't need to make a claim with your insurance company.

Yup, I already sent pics to a body shop that someone on this board recommended to me. Only way I would go through my insurance is if I can find a way to mix in that rocker panel body damage as well . They both have the same damage.

It is state farm insurance by the way.

Nice! Damn new engine, that is crazy. I ran through a 1 foot puddle during a flash flood in my vette too...and I have a vararam! I turned the car off right before I went through it...no damage, got lucky.

Yep, I don't mess around with those type of intakes no more, had a Vortex Rammer when I sucked in water on the '01. Now just a "zip-tie" mod. Here was a recent incident at a buddy's house. Actually took in water on the passenger side, had to pull the seat, dry vac, and air dry for 3 days.

State farm is usually good about these things, but wait to see what the body shop has to say. BTW, it's best to go see a body shop in person then send pictures as they can give a better assessment of the damage. Depending on how skilled you are, you may want to try fixing the damage on the rocker panel yourself.

I am not skilled at all LOL (no experience with body work) I got quoted at $450 for the rocker panel damage. Not sure if that is good or bad. Good idea on driving it over there instead.

Ok guys...quote is $600. It is a very deep gouge...he wants to refinish the hood so it will look right. I am totally fine with that as long as insurance covers it and my rates don't go up.

Sounds exactly like my friends '08 coupe, span of 6 months 2 people hit it and it landed it in the body shop

All is good now - Just go to roll with it - maybe pay a little more and get the whole thing repainted?

Thanks,Matt

That would be cool, but I don't think it will just be a little more. If insurance gives me, lets say a grand, I will prob have to pay another 2 grand out of my own pocket. Just not gonna happen probably, but that is not a bad idea. If I didn't drop 3k on modding the car, I would be all over that!
