What is your budget? If money is no object, go with PS2's and be done. They have over the last several years been the standard that other performance tires have been compared to. They have good ratings for wet weather traction, noise, and dry performance.

However, there are not several alternatives that can give them a run for their money. I really recommend reading some of the reviews and tests done on Tire Rack's website. They have done a 5 way comparison between the PS2's and others.

Not at all. I put an option for street, 2 options for high performance and 2 options for competition. Nothing redundant about that.

To the original poster:

You're on the right track. The NT05 is a fantastic tire. You can't go wrong with it. Some people on here think PS2s are the worlds best street tire, but trust me, they're not. They're a decent tire, but from my experience they're not even remotely worth the money. The only thing they're better at than the NT05s is road noise. They're a little quieter. But if you're driving a Z06, that doesn't matter anyway because you get road noise.

I would tell you the TR1s are definitely a better tire for street use than the PS2s, except they are actually a bit expensive, just like the PS2s. If you're looking for bang for the buck, you're definitely on the right track.

Cool, that is some good feedback.

I am an ex-road racer who will be driving the Z06 on a limited basis. I will only put at most 5K miles on it a year, and most of it will be in dry weather. I occasionally will need to drive it in the wet. I will drive it aggressively on occasion and I definitely like to take twisty road or on-ramps at near the limit (9/10ths) when the conditions are safe. I also might autocross the car once in a while, but I am not too worried about being competitive there, just having fun. I live in Northern California and we have a very mild climate. It is never too hot, or too cold and we have no ice or snow to speak of.

If I go with the NT05s, I assume I run 275/40-17s in the front and 295/35-18 in the back? Is that right?

If you were spending $400 on a Nitto NT05, you were getting ripped off.

Yeah I am going to check my local American Tire Company dealer that gives deals to my car club. Supposedly I can get them installed for less than Discount Tire Direct quotes online, installed.

I must have missed something somewhere, why is it your going with 275/40-17 over the stock size of 265/40-17?

They don't make them in the 265 size.

I ordered the NT05s and they should arrive in a couple of days. They cost $150/each for the fronts, and $225/each for the rears.

You will love those tires Grim. I actually ran them on my Alcoa's.. in the same sizes you are getting. they are a little "noisy" and mine wore @ around 12K... But they grip like nobody's business!! and the look is .. Good choice!!

Good deal. Where'd ya get 'em for that price? I'm thinking about getting that set as well. Looks like we plan on driving in the same conditions.

I got them at the local America Tire Company that gives the local Corvette Club a slight discount. I really like the tires so far!

NT05 is a good tire, I used them on a C6 for track days and they performed very well. Still don't compare to an R Compound but a good street / occasional track day tire.

I've had my nt05's on for 15k miles. The fronts are worn to the indicators and the rears need replacing. The tires are noisy now, sounds like a mild a/t tire and rides "bumpy". Even when they were new, the tires would not catch traction in any part of 2nd gear. I can roll into the throttle and the tires would still start spinning. Forget about 1st gear. They do perform well in the rain and are good at cornering with minimal roll.

BTW, my car is stock.
