I know this is probably the 800th thread on the subject, but bear with me. I plan to pick up a C5Z tomorrow that needs new tires. I plan to keep the car mostly stock, but I want good performance tires. Do I want to keep to the stock tires size or go slightly larger? I definitely don;t want anything too extreme! And what specific tires are people recommending these days? I know I have seen the Pilot PS2's mentioned. Also I know Nitto tires are popular. So what would you guys recommend?
(And yes, I already read through the FAQ, but a lot of the data seems fairly old, so I want to know what the current recommendation is.)
I just bought two PS2's. If I needed four I was tempted to switch to Bridgestone Potenza re760's. They cost WAY less and seem to get good reviews. Does anyone have experience with the Brigestones? I'm not talking for the track, just everyday driving which naturally includes stomping on the gas quite a bit!
I have Toyo T1Rs which are fantastic daily driver tires. They have really good stick for their tread rating. If you plan to drive at all in the rain, these are the tires to go with. I've run them at the track with good results as well. They're not a competition tire, though. They're an extreme performance all-season tire. But I'd say out of my own experience and opinion that they're better than PS2s and KDWs. They also have the longest tread life I've ever seen (other than the crappy Nitto 555s - not the drag radials). I've put over 25K miles on my TR1s and there's more than 50% tread left.
If you're looking for more performance and don't plan to run in the rain, look at the Toyo RA1s or the Nitto NT05s. The NT05s are a bit cheaper than the RA1s, but have a lot of value for the dollar. The RA1s are a competition tire and stick like ***** in the summer. The tread life on these aren't nearly as good as the TR1s, but should last you a bit longer than higher performance competition tires.
If you don't care about tread life, look at Toyo R888s or Nitto NT01s. These don't have great tread life, but when it comes to being able to put power to the ground on the road course, these are the tires to have. They're road-race specific competition tires. DOT approved, of course. The R888s can also be used as drag radials (although, if you plan to drag the car, stick to actual drag radials). The R888s stick with 400RWHP. They both have excellent cornering and handling capabilities. They both are awful in wet conditions. (Although, I've heard from a friend with an 02 Z making 400RWHP that he hasn't had any issues in the rain with the R888s.)
I would also look at Continental ExtremeContact DW. If you look on the Tire Rack's site, there is a comparison of max performance summer tires. Money no object though, you can't go wrong with PS2's.

I always find it funny that when someone asks about a tire recommendation, guys on here throw all sorts of different make/model tires on here without any explanation as to why they're recommending the tire or their feedback about its properties like tread wear, road noise, handling, etc... LOL Might as well just go through a tire website and pick a tire at random.
Well...one would take the handfull of recommendations here a do a search... That would provide the best results.
I mean really...search R888's or PSC's and there will be plenty of reading.
Not to mention the OP didn't really state what he was after...just stockish size and he plans on keeping the car stock...kind of leaves the door wide open for assumptions.

I want a street tire (non-R compound) tire designed for maximum street performance and a good value. Right now it seems that the concensus is the NT-05 offers the best bang for the buck, so I am leaning that way. Next I need to figure on what sizes I should use. Do I stick to stock sizes or go slightly wider? I'd prefer to not throw off the speedometer by too much!
