I'd like to see some photos of the delivered hoods. I'd love to have one of these if it fit well.

I bought a carbon fiber MCM hood in February 2010 from West Coast Muscle Cars. Very clearly advertised as such. It fits all requirements listed by Evil Twin. It is lighter, fit was great, exposed carbon on the outside, and an underside that looks exactly like the picture Evil Twin posted. Cost about $2k + shipping. No weight to list as it was shipped straight to my body shop.

Here's some pre-paint pics.

Exposed carbon on the outside

Hope the new venture works out for everyone. I don't know if mine is real or fake, but it was advertised as real when I bought it and I love it. I hope the same comes true for you guys ordering.

By the way, my recollection is that a guy in the NorthEast had one for sale in the Parts section. No exposed carbon on either side is my recollection. Maybe the username is close to agj..... He was building an insane widebody corvette before selling it off. He has a picture of a porsche as his avatar.

Default Their is no "Shrink Factor" with Vacuum formed CF

I think the tiger shark hood is very close, not sure of the quality.. any one who owns a MCM hood will tell you that there was no fit issues at all... its was paint it and put it on... That kind of quality is very hard to find.. also Mike's hoods were vacuum formed hoods.. when the molds were designed they were designed for a vacuum formed shrink factor... if those original molds are used without the original vacuum formed process, they will not be the same size... hand lay up fiberglass and vacuum formed carbon fiber are two different animals. Its a real shame too because Mike had just moved into a new facility and was going to up the employee number, he had just bought a truck load of Carbon fiber.. and then his # 2 man died... and six months later Mike took very sick. There is such a demand for this high quality hood, I expect someone might make them at some point. He was collaboration with me on designing a new front and rear fascia when he took sick.
Vacuum formed ( really called autoclaved) Carbon Fiber prepreg does not shrink during the molding process. Actually, the resin expands a just a bit. The real art is that the metal tooling expands due to the coefficient of thermal expansion for the metal used in each mold and THAT is what needs to be accounted for in designing an effective mold tool.....

If you could read you would see that I said, the molds were designed as a direct fit using the vacuum formed process.. I also said that when Mike sold the Molds, Ecklars and BPP where using vacuum formed molds to make hand Lay up fiberglass hood, and that this process will change the dimensions...I also said that Mike made them sign an agreement not to call them an MCM hood. But I am so Happy that you set me straight... now go take some reading and comprehension lessons.

Actually, what you said was, "also Mike's hoods were vacuum formed hoods.. when the molds were designed they were designed for a vacuum formed shrink factor..." your words, not mine. Apparently, you lack the reading comprehension skills to decipher your own writing. Idiot.

It was never my intent to criticize you, only to add some detail to the discussion from someone with nearly 30 years experience in the fabrication of high-tech composite aerospace hardware and who knows of what he speaks. But, since you opened the door, you obviously don't have a clue about the essentials of carbon fiber pre-preg molding and try and come off as some kind of expert here and then conveniently leave out the critical detail in your response when someone inadvertently points out that you are a dumb ***. NOW you've been set straight.

You need to be a bit less sensitive to someone pointing out your shortcomings sweetheart. We all have something to learn in life.

By the way, I'm sure these hoods are great and I have no issue with them whatsoever. I wouldn't mind having one myself. $2K is a realistic price for a well crafted CF hood. The material alone would be close to $900.00.

I do get alot of compliments on my MCM hood.
I waited for several months for mine, but it was well worth it. The owners were great folks to deal with.

I'd say its better than resorting to name calling.

Anyways, back on track. I'm taking a trip to ACI this morning, which is also located in Sylvannia, Ohio. I'm going to call this Phil person and see if I can stop by and check things out at the "New MCM" and I'll report my findings, hopefully with pictures.

Hood arrived yesterday as promised to my body shop. The hood is made very well and I am very excited to have it. The same body shop I use for everything ,painted my prior MCM hood for me back on 2004. The only thing I and my painter see that isnt quite as nice as before ,is glue is on the carbon on the underside of the hood. This will possibly create issues with getting it cleared without glue showing. The prior hood didnt have the glue on carbon areas and gave a much cleaner canvas to work with. Very happy with this hood. The top side looks very nice as expected. Took some pictures with my phone to try and show the underside as best I could.
