This will possibly create issues with getting it cleared without glue showing. The prior hood didnt have the glue on carbon areas and gave a much cleaner canvas to work with. Very happy with this hood. The top side looks very nice as expected. Took some pictures with my phone to try and show the underside as best I could.
Looks like a beautiful hood, let us know how the fit is

Looks great!

Are you going to be able to remove the glue prior to clearing the CF? I want the under side of mine to look as good as the top side.

I going to order mine Monday.

The glue is very tough. Don't think we will be able to remove it but most will get covered on the edges where the Cf seams are by taping just enough to cover the glue in the seams.

I'm eager to see how the fitment is. I like the delivered finish. Is it the low rise version or the blower(taller) version?

Well its at the body shop and I dont have a way to weigh it, however I can say I was able to easily pick it up by myself and turn it over. It is definitly lighter than the stock hood yet it didnt feel flimsy at all.

Lower rise version for me . I am not a fan of tall cowl hoods on the C5. I studied many pictures on this for a while before deciding on the hood because of my dislike for tall hoods. This hood seems to flow well. It appears to fit the the lines of the car as just well as the ZR1 hood does for that car.

Thats the one I'm interested in for the same reasons. One of my friends has a similar hood but the fit leaves lots to be disired. I hope these new MCM's have consistently good fit.

Does your friend have the MCM hood or a hood from a different Vendor??
Check the thread in the C5 parts for sale section for further info.

Default I am very please

My concerns for the members of this forum have always been a key component of my help here. I am very please to see that this wonderful hood has resurfaced. If they are using the same process, materials and are building them with love, then we as consumers will make out well. Early on in this thread my focus was on this being a possible scam.. as we all know scams run high on the internet.. and for me "I just talked to the guy on the phone", was just not enough... I now feel confident that all is right. If I offended anyone with my genuine concerns, I apologise... my mind set was to protect the members of this forum...
As far as the hood goes.. the new one should weigh the same as the old one at 43 lbs.Correction The original MCM hood weighs 10 lbs less than the stock hood @ 22 lbs. Stock hood with liner weighs 32 lbs. I apologise for giving the wrong information in this post.Of course this hood is expensive, and it may take many people out of the choice to purchase this hood. If this hood is as good as the old one..If you can afford to get it, you wont be sorry. There was ZERO fitment.. it bolted right up with no adjustments needed like many after market hoods.. some requiring 8 to 10 hours work just to get it to fit..
Good luck, with you hood purchase
I can offer a few insights to my involvement with this hood...
Think twice about clearing the underside because the raw carbon fiber is so deep because of the weave that it will take a few gallons of clear to fill in the weave.. and when done, In my opinion, it looks like peanut brittle.. I chose not to clear the underside, and when I show people the raw carbon fiber, the seem impressed with seeing real raw carbon fiber.. also the other key point is this.. if you have a light colored car, you should make sure that the area under the rise ( the part you see from inside the car ) in the center of the hood.. Is painted black... Ive seen this area painted the same color as the car and from the cabin it looks like the hood was in an accident, and was repainted.. having this area painted black make it look like you are looking right into the engine bay.. If you look at my hood in torch red, you can see what I mean about painting this area black.. Ive had a few member tell me they were sorry they didn't do it that way, after I first posted this tip..
Ill show you the raw carbon fiber and you can see the area in black that I'm talking about, Ill also post a picture from inside The cabin and a look at this blacked out area.

Note the blacked out area in the center of the hood at the cowl area, as viewed from the cabin

Raw carbon fiber

He bought it used from the forum here and it was "thought" to be an MCM... The fit is awfull though and the underside isn't raw carbon fiber, so....

I can speak for myslef here. I was not offended, and guess what, it is no big deal if I was. Being offended is over rated these days. If that is the worse thing I have to deal with, I pretty damn lucky. The key issue here is that guys who are willing to have a first class product now have a means to do that. I appreciate your suggestion about putting the clear coat over the exposed carbon fiber and with address with my painter. My car is Le Mans Blue, and think it will perhaps address the issue you raised.

Default Here is a few more shots.

Here are better shots of how we did that blacked out area, and how it should look.. even the dark blue might look better with the satin black in this area. You may want to show your painter this photo, and see what he thinks.

I'm curious as to why the "new" MCM hasn't updated their website.

Are there any issues with dirt and debri getting into the raw non cleard carbon? Yours looks like it has a sheen to it and is very clean for not having a clear coat.
