Are you sure your 00 doesn't have it? Have you held the TC/AH button down for 5 seconds when your are stopped? I only ask as mine is a 2000 and has competition mode and I didn't realize GM made the cars different in that respect.
I also find it funny that GM would make it where all you have to do is touch the button to turn the entire AH/TC on and off, but you have to be stopped and holding the button for 5 seconds to activate competition mode keeping AH on. Seems backwards to me. (I realize in later years you do not have to be stopped to put it into competition mode).
thats correct. it normally takes about 5 seconds for me when im on a roll of about 15-20mph
It just isn't as gratifying to drop the clutch and have the computer spoil your fun...but you still have Active Handling to keep you from killing yourself. 'Twas a great idea on GMs part.
I probably turn on competitive driving mode every 2 weeks or so when I am feeling frisky.

I wouldn't do it if you are not familiar with HP and rear wheel drive cars, I been driving Hot Rods for over 40 years and know how to drive them and know my limits, I find it a lot of fun, But beware....

I went from a 1971 chevelle SS with a 454 to my corvette. I am familiar with rear wheel drive cars. So, how is it?
I don't think I have NOT run the car in competition mode more than a handful of times in the last 8 years or so. I installed a Laptrax that automatically puts it in competition mode each time it starts. Wish I could have bought my car without AH/TC at all - needless expense and complexity added to the car.
Dope
I have to disagree with you. Some people would get into serious trouble if there was no a system that would intervene when they get in over their head. I know here in Minnesota, there are countless people who would have no clue how to drive a non-assisted car in snow, much less 400+ horse on dry pavement when giving it hell!
Most people nowadays are just so drowned out with driving due to all the electrical assists nowadays on modern cars. Sure, they are great when needed or to help gain traction in bad weather conditions (snow for example), but it has also made people significantly worse at controlling their vehicles by feel and knowing their cars vs. "insert assist here" doing it for them.
Only time I usually take the car out of it's normal driving mode is at the track. There, I'll turn Competition mode on. Otherwise, now and again I might turn everything off by pressing the button once to hang the pack end out on a turn.
But I've been less of that lately, not that I did it much in the first place. Less than 10 times in 3 years. I just don't need the showboating any more.
