we went to a wedding in Conn. last year. I pulled up in the vette and the girl that was one of the "valet" parkers came over. I just said I would like to park it myself....she directed me to the 1st spot in the front and I handed her $10.00.

It is just plastic, aluminum and leather. The valets park cars that are worth 4 or 5 times more than a 11 year old C5. Relax, have a nice dinner (or take the SUV to dinner ).
@Mr. Bill......I'm not the only one who feels like this...lol! We went out and I let them park my car. I got my baby back in one piece and gave him a good tip. Dinner was great too.
Thanks for all the input from everybody. A lot of it made me laugh but I'm glad I saw most of it when I got back.
I pulled up to the valet parking at The Trump Tal Majal in Atlantic City,NJ for a really nice weekend with the wife and I was told they can't valet park my car because it was a "stick shift" but they let me park it in the valet area for free....
Wouldn't you think that being able to drive a stick shift would be a requirement for a valet position?!!!!
i never let a valet park my car. i always offer a nice tip, and ask them to let me park it up front. around here they love to have nice cars parke at the entrance for 'display'. always seems to work. never had a problem yet.

Yea, they park / thrash cars that are worth a lot more. If I can't park it myself, I'll go somewhere else. Usually when we go to a place w/ valet parking I ride with someone else
I recall the C4 had a switch you could turn to cut off full throttle or something when you turn it over to a valet... Does any member remember that otpion?? Maybe they should bring that back in the C5 or C6.. Or you could attach a small black wooden box to the back side of the gas pedal.... joking... Enjoy...
Hey guys, I am currently a Valet here in Columbus Ohio. I did it all through college and am still doing it. I drive lambos, bentleys, you name it I have driven it. I just drove a 200k dollar Porsche Panamera Turbo S last night. Also being a Corvette owner, I can tell you we all love our cars because they are nice and a majority of put alot of blood, sweat, tears, and money into them. But it is still just a car. I dont think twice when I see a corvette come into my restaurant. Flogging the thing through the garage doesnt even cross my mind.
So no worries with leaving my car with a valet, just be mindful of who parks your car. Not everyone is a car nut like me and respects other peoples hard earned property. If the valet is some kid that comes running at the sight of your car, and you dont feel comfortable with him driving it, just through him a couple bucks and you can probably leave the car right at the entrance.
Check out your car when you leave though. These valet companies carry alot of insurance and will not hesitate to repair anything you believe to have been damaged. Time for new/better parts

Yes, I remember that feature, but it was only on the ZR-1 and was not an option. Turning on the key did reduce power output so valets, etc. didn't have access to full throttle driving.
I do not use valet parking myself. Seldom if ever go to a place that even offers it around here. Glad it worked out good for the OP though.

I looked into this a couple years back. I was going to make a 'black box' to put the car in valet mode however 1) I didn't get much response to the proposed idea and 2) It would be a bit expensive to make/sell because of the CAN Bus communications.
Hell f*€k@g no. If your woman bitches about it, too bad. A good girl will understand. No way a stranger is parking my 6 speed, I don't care how many lambos he/she parked. if required I'll pay $5 or $10 and park it myself. If that's not acceptable, we go somewhere else
The scene that always comes to mind for me is the one in Ferris Beuler's Day off with the Ferrari. Kinda scares the hell out of you!
I also shipped my van to Hawaii when I was stationed there. When I picked up the van there were 900 miles added to the odometer. You never know what's gonna happen when you are not looking.
I would never let someone drive my Corvette, call me nuts but i dont even let anyone drive my 2006 Ford Ranger. I worked to hard for my money and most people do not care about others property. I would park it myself or go somewhere else.
Never! I have had one car damaged by a valet. I also knew a valet at a downtown Boston fancy restaurant and he used to tell me stories about how they would drive "hot" cars. Trust me, don't do it!
For those that say it is just a car, you may not care much for your car, but the hassle of collecting (proving they did it and getting your money) and getting it fixed right isn't worth the risk. Trust me, I know!
