Default Need info about Corvette C5

Hi guys! I am from Russia!

I am new to corvette, and need some info about C5 model, please help me!

1. what body types C5 has? hardtop, targa(Removable roof) , cabriolet?
which type more common?
ps. I like targa body.

2. what engines are installed into?

3. are there only RWD corvette available? what about AWD (4wd) ?

4. what is the MAIN GEAR ratio in the reducer? are there any option? 3.7 or 4.1 or 4.3 ratios?

5. what is the common price for stock C5 in the USA? what does it depend on?

in short, what I want:

purchase C5 targa body, does not matter engine and transmission type.
then I am going to mount front WD(if corvette does not have AWD model)
then I want to install/mount 2JZ-GTE engine inside + gt40r turbocharger. don't ask why I dont like V-style engine because of very complex composition and aluminum block.

Looking forward to your feedback

1. Targa top was available in all C5. Convertible was available from '98-'04. Fixed roof coupe(FRC)was available from '99-'04', but '01-'04 had the Z06 badging and upgrades in engine and suspension.

2. Targas, verts and '99-'00 FRCs all had the LS1 engine. 345hp until '01 which gave the LS1 some changes to render 350hp. Also in '01 the FRCs went to the LS6 engine in what is badged as the ZO6 which had 385 in '01 and 405hp in'02-'04.

3. RWD only.

4. Not positive on this one. Going from memory. I'm sure someone will correct me if I've failed. Stock ratios could be had at 3.73, 3.90, and 4.10. And I might be missing one. 3.65 maybe.

5. Price totally depends on year, mileage and condition. Older high mileage could be had for 10k-12k whereas newer low mileage could bring 25k-30k.

Hope this was helpful and good luck. Welcome to the forum.

Better off buying a FWD car and putting a C5 body on it if that is all you are keeping, cheaper shipping too

Good luck

I agree except the gearing.

Stock automatic had 2.73 gears, as an upgrade 3.15 was offered, All 6 speed cars came with 3.42 gears, With that being said you could get aftermarket gears in 3.73, 3.90, 4.11 and there might be more, These are what I am aware of.

that helps. thanks to LS2NSUV.

I have the entire front WD from Altezza Gitta with front reducer with 3.7 or 4.1 gear ratio, so I will need the same ratio on the rear reducer.
so IS there all over the world C5 corvette with 4wd? or I am going to be the first

Mr.Bill, hi, do you mean if I want 3.7 or 4.1 main gear ratio, I will need to purchase it from aftermarket companies or I can install it from another car?

Hello commrade, what octane fuel do you have and how much does it cost? What do you drive now?
hi, in my city, the highest - 98-100 octane gasoline is available. Currently I am driving Toyota Chaser 4WD with 2JZ-GTE engine + gt37 turbocharger.
in my town, one of my friends have C5 corvette, it was impressed when my friend showed me that car, I am in love with corvette now I want corvette c5 body with my car engine and transmission 4wd MT as on nissan skyline GTR

PS. I dont know how on the USA roads, but on russia roads with 500+hp car RWD is not viable, because of bad traction, only AWD is possible for good driving!

Same transmission. You'll just need to change the differential gearing.

I'm afraid you will have to do some serious fabricating to make a C5 AWD, I would see if you can find some pics of the front cradle assy, to give you an idea of what you will need to modify. If you do take it on be sure to post up some pics. Good Luck.

If you want 3.73 or 4.11 gears you will need to get them from Richmond gear or others, The C5 cars a 1 of a kind rear end and you will need the gears for the C5 Differental.

Can you post pictures of your car you have now, sounds good, like a nice drive

Do you have Skyline available there, that would be a good base car for a Corvette body transplant

Show us pictures, we like Russian cars too

yes, that supra designed for drag racing, the size does not matter in this case acually, the main conception is that this supra AWD, front wd is from toyota chaser 4wd.
