I wouldn't change the ing switch, If you do you will have to change the door lock and the glove box and center console locks also to do it right, I wouldn't worry about it, If it was to come up missing insurance would cover it, But I don't think you have anything to worry about, Like I said before reprogram the alarm so the missing fob won't work with your car. Now go and enjoy the car.

thanks for all the excellent advice folks, it is much appreciated. i have a few gm muscle cars and this is my first corvette. it's a great car and a ton of fun to drive. thanks again for all the help!

What reads the key resistor? If BCM, could that be reprogramed for a different resistor value, thus keeping your same key cuts and not having to change all the locks and ignition switch?
