The last 01 I owned only came with one key. I measured the resistance of the pellet, bought one off ebay for $9.95 shipped, took it to Lowe's and they cut if for free.

Here is what you need to do, Get the reading of the chip on the key and order one from eBay along with a new fob, I bet you can get a new key and fob for around 30 bucks total and have a local locksmith cut it for you, You can reprogram the fobs so that if there is another one out there for your car and it won't work anymore. Very easy.
Mr.Bill
Paid $5 for one key on Ebay and $2 to get it cut at the local locksmith. The locksmith / key shop said they had the keys for $10 or $15. Forgot which exactly.
Next step is the key fob. Expect that to come in under $70 with shipping.
Whoopie.....
In Dallas for biz, called a local Chevvy dealer for a 2000 FOB. They didn't have one but hooked me up with a another dealer. $90 something over the phone for their last one. Got there and they charged me $62! Sweet
Heard there's a dealer in Fort Worth who might have one left according to their inventory system.

I actually prefer to pay more and keep the brick and mortar places in business. Also, I paid the money and was done with it. No waiting for shipping, and then having to get the key cut. Then programming the fob. It's all done for me. And if it did not work, they get to fix it.

I'll look for the ebay site. I got them at 5.50 plus 3.00 shipping. I bought two in case one didn't cut right. They both work perfect so now I have three keys. Only difference is the black **** part is the small GM style. I can't believe what the dealers get away with sometimes.
Not sure what was up with this car. I got two keys with it. They both read the same VAT but they are cut different. One starts the car and the other unlocks the console lid. It would seem either the console lock or ignition was changed at some point.
I still need fobs but I'm waiting to see whats up with my TPS. I may do the upgrade on all that if I need new TPS.
^ SO the small head gm key is about 7 shipped and the big head key is 15 shipped. The big head key is Corvette specific but the same body as the small one. One of your keys may be just for valet mode to open doors and stuff. The fob if you have a 01 and up is 25 shipped from ebay you do your own programming through the DIC. Whoever payed $140 plus I hope they bought you dinner after the raping.
thanks for the quick response, what i'm really worried about is that the person did in fact sell the car to pay for some lawyers fees for a situation that he was involved with. not trying to judge anyone but i hate the fact that his key might show up and my car goes missing. i'm slightly paranoid. maybe i should change the ignition? is that a big thing to do? thanks for your help very much.
I dion't know if the ignition would be hard to change you would have to research it but better safe then sorry if your worried about it. Only issue is if you sell the car and you tell the next possible owner you changed cylinder locks it throws all types of flags. That's why you pay insurnce if it gets stolen get something better.
