My Son and I went to a car show yesterday. We both were "bored to the bejesus belt!" My son said, It kinda sucks that the clean nice looking cars with major engine mods and tastefully done exterior mods always loose to the bling bling cars with all the overdone chrome. We call that all show- No Go!! We both decided that shows that don't involve some sort of charity are OUT and more driving and track time are In!

Hear you - BUT - When you know what rules then either follow the rules or find something else to do. Plenty of cars with show and go and for me the important part is spending quality time with other auto lovers.
I do a lot of shows and they are all different. you need to look and see how the classes are setup and how they judge. Also don't go with the idea that you are going to win, but go with the idea of meeting new people that share the same interest as you. I attended a show over the Labor Day weekend and met people parked on both sides of me that drove from Savanna GA to St. Pete Fl for the show. We had a good time just sitting around talking.
I love going to car shows and looking at what must have been a lot of time and money invested. Also like to ask questions about this and that and BS a little but after an hour or two its time to go for a drive. I know to each his own but I just can't imagine sitting in a lawn chair all day on a nice day, only getting up every half hour to featherdust everything off again and brag about how "my car is ten years old and only has 8,000 miles on it". Yes, I expect negative feedback on my comments and welcome them but do understand I respect the choices people make as to what to do with their cars and everyone should have a hobby, my choice is to spend my spare time driving. getting all the rock chips and scratches that come with that choice.

If it weren't for shows my car might never get washed/waxed,
As it is it gets the full treatment about six times a year and "common" treatment another six.
We go just to win the 50/50 and man are we PO'd if we don't
Honestly, if it were just about the cars it would get real boring. We love to meet the host club members and run into Forum Members. Now THAT is where the real fun is.

I agree to a point.Trailer queens and no go bling mobiles are not my thing either, but I DO appreciate the time and effort it takes to bring them to that sort of level. And after all, some folks would rather be seen than to actually be fast.
I agree Ive done 12 shows this year, some are fun-some are just horrible, stay away from the small town shows unless ur from that town, I seen a bone stock pontiac G6 with a pink camo steering wheel cover bring home best GM-up aginst my C5 a friends 04 Z06 a 69 72 77 99z28 camaro and a chevelle SS-we all looked at each other and laughed hahaha.
You can win with a little bling and pereformance mods. This weekend we had our annual 4 day Rod Run and Doo Wop (986 cars) and awards are voted on by show sponsors. My company is a sponsor and I picked a really nice blown C5 vert with a great paint job and tastefully done ghost flames from Columbus. Personally I don't go for the over the top stuff. You know...more is less.
I go for the people who needs another dust collector
I agree
If the only criteria for entry is to win then disapointment could be around every curve. Don't let a $2.oo trophy be your only reason for showing your car share your experience and friendship with others it can be the highlight of someone elses day.I have 2 saved trophys, one is the one my son won at his high school home coming for a car we built together in 1997 and the other one for my first c5 entry. Enjoy the experience and make some new friends you then have truly won.

If the track type events are your thing, then nothing wrong with that. I like the regular car shows and take them as an opportunity to meet a lot of nice people.
Shows are good. I like a stress free day of chilling out with friends and meeting new car people. I have won a few trophys, but it is a rare that I do, and I never plan on it. Mostly, it just fund to do. That being said, my cars are used for driving. My C5 is at 103k, and the C3, well, who knows?

Charity events are the ones I like the best. I chose to mod more "performance" oriented components on my car than anything else. I rarely ever gets noticed at a car show but I don't care. I go to hang out with fellow car nuts like myself and see the custom work others do to there cars. Some are really nice... some are really cheesy.... Its all fun though !
Did not mean to offend anyone with my comment. Shows can indeed be fun if there is a good mix of cars and people. Just wanted to share my boys perspective on the matter. We go to enjoy the company of others not to win. It's just who wins some times that is a head turner.
