Maybe the kid did own 18 corvettes but I'll bet they were all made by Mattel.

no, i use bold blue because it's easier for me to see it. I emphasize things with caps.

i asked the op twice to explain why he was outraged by the mention of previous cars, but no response. I would like to understand (and maybe agree), but just based on the original rant, i can't figure out what made him mad.
as i stated earlier, and referencing his use of the word bragging twice, that the people he was referring to seemed obnoxious.
was it the fact that others spoke to him about corvettes, or that others had more cars than he did? Maybe he didn't like their attitude. I don't know why it bothered him so much, or you for that matter.
the ONLY(see, emphasis!) thing that bothered me was how he was picked on by fellow forum members.

i guess you had to be there. Its something i'd like to hear from the op, not others who also don't have all the facts.
i never purported to know the facts, only a perceived attitude inferred by the words that i read. I got involved in this because of what i considered to be a humorous response by another poster.
well this is going well. yes, retired, isn't it? i think i'm done with this one.

I never have this problem.
Everyone I've talked with about my Corvette has been a gentleman.
Except for the two girls that asked to have their picture taken with it.

I live in New Jersey. Go figure.

People with little to no self esteem will always attempt to take a **** in your lemonade. That is the only way they can survive.

You might have said something like: "Wait a second friend, I think you're confusing me with someone who gives a rats *** what you've owned".

Signing up and posting here (a user forum) isn't predicated by the necessity to be everyone's "friend" no more than being "friends" with everyone who shops at Target or likes a particular wine from a specific vineyard. That's ludicrous. Go to any brand related enthusiant event and tell me that you'd like to have everyone you encounter over for dinner, or to enjoy a game of backgammon. For the record, my family has had 11 corvettes throughout our history. I happen to think it's cool that I was literally raised in them and now own one myself. Many times I've mentioned this to other vette owners as a recognition point for how the cars inspire loyalty and become a part of our life history as owners. Sometimes it's merely a point of conversation related to the love of the brand passed down from my Dad; not to brag. Fortunately, no one ever huffed off assuming that I was bragging before allowing the conversation to play out. If they had, I certainly wouldn't be crying into a towel about it on a public forum. (Ed. note: Conscious choice not to type this post in exaggerated font size and color for emphasis.)

So one day me a few buddies are eating at a 5 guys Burger joint. And a Guy get out of this old beat up truck. ahe didn't look like he had a anuff money to buy a Burger let alone a nice car. He walks up to us and says who's car is the fastest. I had my Camaro with me at the time. H/C car with 150 shot. My friends let him no it me. He says you want to run it. I'm like with what you truck? He says I have 6 mustangs!!! We start rolling thinking of what kind of mustang's these must be. So we make are way to are local hang out. Well about a hour later he shows up In a mystic chrome cobra and his wife has a Shelby super snake right behind him. He owns a 04 Mach 1 04 cobra 3 different gt500 and a new 5.0. All with next to no miles. He shut us up. And we dogged him for the full hour he was gone. Lesson learned.

Sorry, but that is exactly what the purpose of these forums are. People who have a common interest and wish to share/learn from others. Doesn't mean one has to be bosom buddies with everyone, nor is there reason for being uncivil if one disagrees. The OP mentioned bragging 3 times now.
I wish I was raised with hot cars like you were Zap, instead of loving them from afar. Thankfully that was my Dad and my favorite Uncle's legacy which I finally was able to satisfy 50 years later.

Well, since everyone is chiming in............. I believe that a lot of people really are envious when they see someone in a Vette, they start wondering what YOU did in life that THEY didn't to earn one of "those" machines. I believe that they somehow want to talk to you and make you understand that they COULD have had one but they CHOSE not to have one. It is human nature to judge other people for what they are not.
Like others I smile and say "that's nice" because my mother taught me it was more polite than saying F&*k You. How did she know?
