That's what makes the car sexier. It's the best factory option one can have. Glad mine had them, or the deal would have been off.
Body Side Moldings weren't on my list of must haves when I started looking for my C5. After buying a clean, low-mileage car and looking a more C5's at the club I began to realize that my car was missing something: Body Side Moldings. After a Forum member made me a deal I was able to get them painted and on my car for about $200. I think they were a $78 dealer installed option in '02.
This question used to come up weekly in the early days and quite a few polls were run. BSMs, yes or no?
If you read the BSM threads, the "Nays" are way more vocal than the "Ayes". All the polls which were ever run, surprisingly, split opinions about 50/50.
They were on my list of "Mustn't Haves"when I was shopping for my Vette.
To me they look just like what they are: an afterthought.
But,to each his own...
I'm a total fence sitter on this one. I have read every BSM thread since joining the forum. At first I was thinking of removing them, but I would go into the garage and look at them and think "I kinda like them". Anyway, 4 years later they're still on the car. I think what I will do is remove them if they ever do their job and get scratched by some yahoo's wayward door.
It wasn't high on my "don't want on the car list" but helped in picking out my 01 vert. Feel the car just looks smoother without them. Just not visibly appealing to me. IMO.
