I start thinking about it when the DIC hits 10% but don't usually get around to it until 5-0%

You are absolutely correct, It's a computer based software algorithm that determines when to change oil based on engine operating
conditions. Excuse me for my poor choice of words.

Whenever the computer tells me to, no need in replacing perfectly good oil.

About 5K. I know some will say you can go a lot more but I use mine almost as a DD and I have 82K on the clock so I consider it cheap insurance to make sure my oil is clean.

I change it no matter what every April as part of my yearly pre-autox inspection and fluid change.
Mine's a daily driver doing maybe 10K miles/year...and I have a heavy right foot

Same here. I think I've only put 3000 miles on mine since 4/2010. But 10 months of that I was out of town on business.

I do the same. I put too few miles on in a yearly, so my annual oil change happens in the spring.

I don't run home and change the oil right the day it dips below 10%, but after it does get below 10% and I have a free day with nice weather, then I'll change it.

2023 C5 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
Another annual changer here. If it ever got close, I trust the DIC. With synthetic oil and a good algorithm I'm happy it does its job.

Every 3k, not a D.D. but I don't park it in the winter. Mobil 1 10w30 and a Purolator filter.

Hope that it's okay for a C6 guy to chime in...
Since I bought my car new, I've changed it every 5k miles. This is the first time I've decided to wait until the OLM (DIC) tells me to do so. I have read so many threads on this site that go into great detail about how much time, effort, and $$$ GM put into the OLM system, and with my new CTS Coupe the oil changes are free, but you MUST wait until the oil life drops into the single digits to have the dealership change it.
So I thought about it, and figured that if GM is going to stand behind their OLM on the Caddy, (and honor the warranty) I might as well trust them with the Vette too.
The Z06 is not my dd, the Caddy is, so I may lose my nerve and change it out in the Z06 as I approach the magic 5k miles.

Because of the acids in the oil that can and will pit the camshaft and ruin the bearing. I have seen this.

I go by DIC, even though since I have a 1998 C5 I could change it 50% later.
They upped the top limit from 10,000 miles to `15,000 miles.

I change the oil once each year. My car is not a daily driver but I do drive it all year just not many miles. Approx 3000 miles annually.
