I picked up an LS3 out of a Camaro with 7k on the clock. We cammed it, left the stock heads on it, changed the normal springs etc. The high pull was 500 rwhp 470 rwtq, the low was 490 rwhp 460rwtq. So with a median of 495 rwhp 465 rwtq I'm pretty happy. The heads are untouched and its tuned on pump gas. The torque curve and hp curve aren't peaky and it makes most of its power between 3750 and 5800 rpm, excactly what a road racer needs.
watch those LS3 heads, those were the problems for all the oiling issues on the track.
Oil pools in the heads under High G- Left handers and in high G hard brake zones.
Unless your adding a real dry-sump to the LS3 take it easy.
Good Luck
Thanks, currently I have an accusump. Its really only there for the pre-oiling benefits. The plan is if business stays the way it is, late spring I will be adding a real dry sump. Until then I will ATTEMPT to stay off of the track
the LS3 heads are the problem for tracking the LS3 engines.
I know two guys who have LS3s with PP243 heads, GM Cup cam, Fast92/92 and a dry sump. Frick'n power house. and one with TF heads and a TR cam, another power house.
Very nice, I am picking up a similar setup from ECS this week. I am glad to see where your numbers came out, my goal was to break 500rwhp
LS3 from a 2011 Camaro, FAST LSXr 102mm, Kooks LT Headers, GHL Bullets, Vararam CAI, ECS Big Blower Cam (in anticipation of FI in the future), and some other small bits
what exactly is the issue with the LS3 heads in the oiling dept.?
solution?
Steve
Oil pools in the heads under hard hard high G braking or high G left hand sweepers and does not return the pan. Bearings go dry and BANG.
High G meaning over 1.2 Gs
Solution is a real Dry sump, or change the heads out to 243 heads or an other aftermarket head.
A few guys tried Smith Brothers Push rods to limit the oil into the heads but that did not work
This is on a road course. Normal hot rodding about drag racing should not be a problem.
