Default Who is getting pulled for tint?

Since law enforcement wants to keep pulling me for my tint I think it might be time to remove it. I got it tinted to 20% all around months ago. I got pulled within 2 weeks and got a warning. I then did good for a few months. Week before last I did the halo mod to the roof. The next day I got pulled and got a ticket for the tint. His meter read 9%. I usually put the windows down as soon as I see a cop but I have no idea where the trooper came from, I just looked and he was beside me looking at the car.

So this morning I am cruising down 95 minding my own business. Going 72mph in the fast lane. We were all going the same speed. I happen to look back and see a car in the fast lane probably an 1/8th mile back and it is gaining on me fast. I get ready to get in the right lane to let them pass then realized it was a state trooper. I figured he was going to pull me for going 72 in the 55. So I slowed down to around 68 and get in the middle lane maybe thinking he was in a hurry to get somewhere.. nope. He came in the middle lane with me and put his siren and lights on. So I pulled off. He walks up and asks for my lisence and told me he pulled me for the dark windows. I said yes sir I am aware. I just got a ticket last week and haven't been able to remove the tint yet.... He asked what it was and I said they measured 9%. He put the meter on it and then walked back to his car. He said he was going to let me off and he was taking my word that I was pulled and that technically they can pull me each day after the offence and ticket me if they have not been removed. He also pointed out my rear window was too dark and that the front windsheild tint was below the ASI mark.

I also heard today that if you are ticketed 3 times for tint they can impound the car. I wonder how true this really is? Sounds a bit extreme. For a while i thought I would just kep paying the tickets since I love the tint so much. And my eyes are so sensitive to light. But now I might just take it off if this is the case and go with 50% or 35%.

Anyone else ever been hassled so much for tint?

That sucks man, I have all my windows tinted including my whole front window, and have never been pulled over in 3 years! I do drive my cat 95% of the time with my top and windows down, but have never been bothered for my front window!

If you know a good doctor, maybe he/she can write you something up stating you need tinted windows as you have a medical condition!

I've been pulled over for no front tag and the 35% tint on my car was "discussed". VA only allows 50%. I recently had squamous cell skin cancer on my left ear removed so I tinted the windows in my MDX also to 35% and will talk to a judge if needed.

PO put it on mine. Both windows and a band across the top of the WS. Looks really dark and be willing to bet it isn't legal. I sort of like it and my GF says keep it. But, I really don't care to have anything on my vehicles that is an excuse for some cop to pull me over. Plus I have to send pictures to the state for the recon title and they want to see the windows up. So it will be coming off.

BTW, not trying to hijack but any tips on removing the stuff?

If you can't see a cop standing right next to your Corvette, the tint needs to come off. Looks juvenile anyway.

5% all around and haven't been pulled over yet.
I am sure my time is coming though.

I got a ticket in my Benz for tint coming up thru Brunswick County, VA. State trooper came from his resting place facing south, watching northbound traffic.

Got pulled over again in the Vette on a sunny, cool November day heading south through Culpeper, VA. State trooper saw no front tag and got into the left hand turn lane. Pulled back out and paced me for a bit on my left flank, then lit me up. He was a nice guy though, walked around and saw my plate on my air dam. "You have a front plate, but it needs to be more visible, like in the center of the front end." I said, "Awww man, that looks like ASSSS!!!" He laughed and said, "I know, I know, you Vette guys!" He asked me about my windows, and I told him about the ticket in the Benz, and that I have a bone to pick with the tint shop. I asked for 35% and they gave me 25 up front and 11 in the back. He let me go.

My advice is to stay off major highways in VA during daylight hours. I take back roads as often as I can. Local PD hasn't bothered me yet...

I kept mine legal as well @ 35%. Why give them a reason to pull you over? A MY C5 doesn't blend in with the crowd very well to begin with.

Maybe I am pulled because my car can been seen and heard from a mile away!

I am going to see what can be done about getting something from an eye doctor on it. My eyes are VERY sensitive to light. I mean, I wear sunglasses when it is cloudy out..

I have 20% on the sides and rear. Legal here is 25%. No problems from LEO but I get hassled annually during safety inspection time.

Hey Qwik, you could always have hot coffee and donuts in your car at all times just in case! It may help along with a bumper sticker that says " I LOVE MY LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT!!!"

Sucks man. I'm really glad I'm in Arizona where everyone has tint. It's a rare thing when a cop bugs someone with limo tint all the way around. Legal limit here is, nothing on the windshield, no darker than 35 on the driver and passenger side, and as dark as you want everywhere else. Since it's so hot and bright here though cops don't really hassle you. I haven't been pulled over at all for tint, but I'm just past the limit. 25 on the sides and 10 in the back, thought about going 0 in the back and 5 or 10 on the sides though.

Why would anyone tint windows beyond the legal limit anyways when they have no medical condition? Stay within the legal tint and no ticket.

Oh wait, I forgot people do it all the time to look 'gangsta'. Legal tint won't be 'gangsta.'

Tint looks juvenile? Tint helps with the blistering sun here in Central FL. I've had it on my 02 Silverado since new, 5% sides and back, never been pulled for it or been checked during a stop. Interior still looks great and it sits outside all day every day. Have 20% on sides and back on my ZO6 and haven't had an issue. I have the right to my privacy irregardless of their bullsh!t tint law. Generally around here, if your cool with the officer and he didn't pull you over for being a jackass, its a non-issue.

Have your doctor fill out a Sun-Shading Medical Authorization Application, take it to DMV and they will send you new registration with permission to use the tint. Even then they only allow 35% all around including front windshield. I personally wont ever put on anything more than 20% again because i couldn't see out of my truck at night.
