There is the problem that can give you the solution. Talk to your PCP or OD and have them give you a script for the tint. I have one in both my cars from my PCP. I was diagnosed with skin cancer some years ago and I had my doc write me a script that says I need it.

Haven't been pulled over yet but I have a friend who is a cop and says I'm in the clear with it.

Drs FTW!

WOW, Really? In some states, legal isn't dark enough to keep the car cool from the blistering heat. Absolutely nothing to do with "lookin' gangsta".

Gangsta'.... If you're tinting for that sole purpose you're an idiot.

First, as previously stated, some states are hot as hell and bright, AZ being one of them.

Second, I don't like people being able to look at everything I do. I'm not a mobile fish bowl for people to gawk at... If I want people to see me I'll put the windows down.

It's amazing how much cooler the car is with tint. let alone the interior protection factor.

I'm sure it will also happen to me......I have a limo tint and have had it for over eitht years (two Vettes). Have not been pulled over yet. Down here, the police also have limo tint....okay for them, not okay for us? I would probably use the "Ticket Clinic" if I got ticketed. I'd rather pay the ticket clinic rather than the police/city/county.

I would love to not have a tag on the front of my car and tint my windows but I don't like to give the police any excuse to pull me over. The law is what it is in each state and if you choose to do something you know is illegal you have to pay. By the way, the cop could have traced your safety inspection sticker back to the inspector and got him in trouble. I reread your OP and see you just got the tint a couple of months ago. How are you going to pass the inspection?

Or for privacy, security, protection of interior from strong UV rays, cooler interior temperatures in 100+ temperatures (it's only getting hotter too), and most people not collecting social security like the look of dark windows. technically speaking most people on this forum have done stuff to there cars that aren't exactly legal. exhausts, intakes, HID's, etc. Its called being impractical. we don't need these things but we enjoy the satisfaction they bring. your questions sounds the same as someone saying "why drive a corvette when the speed limit is only 65?". our cars are built to go fast and thats what i plan on doing. Impractical? yes. Do i care? not one bit. to each his own my friend.

mine is legal at this point.....35% on sides and rear and i don't have anything on windshield (that's the way i bought it).....if it wasn't illegal, it would be a lot darker!

back 20yrs ago i had a datsun pickup with 5% over the entire windshield, and double 5% on sides and rear .....never got pulled.....also had a lumina z34 with same setup ....never got pulled.

have a 91 chevy 4wd had 5% on sides and rear with nothing on windshield.......got pulled couple years ago by GSP (that's God's Special Police to the lay person).....amazingly i got a warning (that's VERY rare with GSP) so i stripped the sides and put them to 35% and left the extra cab and rear to 5% (which is legal for a truck or anything on a truck frame in ga).....i work too hard for my money to pay for fines.......but to each their own

as marco from tropoje said........"good luck!"

I live in Michigan, so I guess tinting concept is not with me. I guess it makes sense if you live in the Southern states. I keep valuables out of sight, so security is not an issue, when people stare I think they are just jealous.

When I see a vehicle with limo dark tinted windows around here, it is almost always driven by a shady "gangsta" types with bass so intense that it shakes my windows, a guy who drives like a jack-*** who thinks that rules don't apply to them, or a teenager who don't know better.

My co worker's son put limo tint on his car all around, I asked him why, and he said, "It makes me look gangsta..."

But then he went out and got 6000k HID since he couldn't see at night.

Default Look at it from the cop's point of view.

The reason why many cops pull over heavily-tinted vehicles is that they often cannot tell if the driver or passenger is pointing a gun at them as they walk over to the vehicle after the driver has been pulled over.

I can understand their reasoning and the fact that people who tint their front windows so that they can still be seen are rarely ticketed, even though technically the next shade lighter than limo is still illegal here.

This is a true statement, but on a 4 door car, there is factory tint on the rear doors and back window. So the guy sitting in the back seat with the AK-47 is ok, as long as its not the guy in the front seats, the cop needs to look through the front windows only. This is an oxy moron to me!

Sorry but this idea kinda makes me laugh, but thats the law for ya!

I can see it being a foreign concept to a lot of people from up north. It was to me until I moved down from PA 17yrs ago. If you don't have tint on your windows, during the summer months(April to late Oct. ) the sun is so intense that it charbroils you.
Ah yes, today's younger generation. It's sad to say but a significant portion of them already are or are on their way to being worthless and don't have a clue.

You live in Fairfax County. The police always have a reason to pull you over!!! I've seen a judge in a Fairfax court enforce a ticket on a guy with non-oem headlights and tell him "It's a car, not a Christmas tree."

Fortunately, it's the State Police that seem to be running strict enforcement on the tint and tags. My front tag is mounted, but not in the center of the front clip. I've run it that way for 4 years, put thousands of miles on the car, and this is the first time I've been pulled over for it. I don't think the officer had a problem with it, because when he walked around to the front, he saw it and said, "Ohhhh.... okay it's there..." before going into anything else.

As far as inspections go, I've passed inspections on both tinted cars without problems. I've also failed an inspection because my brake fluid was low. What's the big deal?

Tint laws are stupid anyways.
I can drive my panel van with no back windows and that is ok.
Put tint on my back window and now the cops can't see me and it's dangerous.

Maybe I will just take the tint off and spray paint the back window black. lol

The summer is brutal down here. I've had tint on all my cars. The legal limit, which is 35% on the front, is not enough. You have to go at least 20%. The only LEO's that seem to be enforcing this are the Troopers and not very often.

This appears to me to be an antiquated law. With computers on the patrol cars, the LEO knows everything about you before he or she even pulls you over. Then, many wait by their patrol car and ask you to come to them.

.

That is how they justify the law as I understand it. So if that's the case, why would you go and pull over a vehicle with tint for no other reason? If it's really a problem, sounds like playing Russian Roulette to me.
