A buddy is selling his C6 Z06 and I'm considering it. Would I be just as happy spending $8000 on a supercharger for the C5 or should I invest the big bucks into the C6?
What would you do?

02, 29,000 miles, long tubes and x pipe, new exhaust and that's about it on mine. Buddy's is an 08, stock Z with about 8,000 on it.
I don't have a clue what I'd get for mine, buddy wants $60K for his.
You'd get low $20's most likley for yours; and your buddy needs to come down off his $60K by possibly $8-10K IMO. I'd shop around a bit before making a decision, but there's going to be about a $30K desparity between your C5Z and a newer C6Z if you want to stick with an '08 or '09.
Supercharged c5z 4 sure.. I was in same boat even had mine up for sale then changed my mind..after driving the c6z for a while just want as fun as mine..c5z feels more like a go cart and supercharged is a rocket
Keep in mind the C6z is a more robust platform. You may be ultimately spending more than you bargained for if you start breaking things on the c5, and you never get your money back for mods. So if you end up spending 10-15k on upgrades/modifications your car will still only be worth close to its current value. If you can snag a nicely modded c6z within the 40k range. You begin with a more robust drivetrain, better brakes, bigger tires, better aero. Essentially you get a car that is already at your target point and is valued appropriately. Now if you just prefer the c5, and value isn't a primary concern. I can understand that point of view. Just weigh all the pros and cons to each side because regrets are a bitch.
I had a 03 vert w/supercharger, sold it to buy a c6z, didnt like it as much as the c5, sold the c6z. now I own 04 z16-z06 w/supercharger happy again!!!!
I'm in a similar position. I have under 20k miles on my 02z, and I've decided to keep it and I'll be contacting ECS next month for a blower/meth/clutch/valve springs package. I realize that a forged motor, stronger trans and rear are in my future some time down the road, but I don't race my car. It's more for the enjoyment on the road and taking it to shows so I think it will hold together just fine.
The key factors in my decision is that I know the history of my car, and it's in super condition and where it's been. Purchasing a new(er) Z is somewhat of a gamble.
I also do not want any car payments at all. This is a toy for me.
You're probably about $2K short on the blower cost estimate... Unless you're gonna do all the work yourself..
Clutch.. tires.. gauge.. install.. tune and the blower kit is an easy $10K! And that's still on a stock block that becomes a ticking timebomb..
Been there... Done that!
You might have had a problem, but a well taken care of LS6 with 29k miles and APROPRIATELY tuned/blown is is no way a ticking time bomb. They can take plenty of power safely. I have done exactly that with my 02 Coupe and ECS and it is great. Just not true.
I had a similar decision to make when I first purchased my C5, but I am on a budget so it was either C5 + Mods or C6 stock. Knowing how I am I knew I was going to mod in the long run so I chose the C5 as the C6 would of left me modless for at least 24 months.
I'm happy with my decision, went with the A&A supercharger (Would of went ECS if I didnt have to deal with Smog) during their end of year sale and couldn't be happier. Anyone who asks why I didn't get the C6 gets a ride in the C5 and one WOT session answers their question.

I know many people who have had stock bottom end supercharged LS6's... And when babied then yes... They will run forever... But when you start driving it to its full potential on a regular basis, things start breaking.. I've seen this happen over and over with different tuners. There would be no need for forged bottom ends if these LS6's were so bullet proof. But maybe yours is that one in a million!
I have seen quite a few threads of guys leaving the C5Z for a C6Z and returning when they learned the maintenance alone was much more than anticipated. Brakes and tires on them are a bit more costly. If that is not an issue weigh the pros and cons. I love the C5Z look and raw feel when driving it and the only way I'd move from this to another VETTE would be to a ZO6 or better, the ZR1. That is just me.
