Should I get the new run flats or non run flats
I am waiting for my 7,400 mile 2001 C5 and will be putting C5 Z06 wheels on it. Do the new run flats offer excellent handling ( want just dry weather tire)?
Do the new run flats come in C5 Z06 wheels sizes? I will be adding Hopkiss large stabilizer bars to the car and love max handling. What should I get that will give the best handling?
Or should I just go with non run flats and carry tire inflator. Remember that out here in Arizona it can be way more than 200 miles between gas stations and i would hate to wait in some sleepy town several days while they ordered or located Corvette size tires. In my Z06 I fit an extra tire/wheel behind the seats but I can not do that with the convertible.
Suggestions?

If you want the best handling, you are going to have to go with non-runflats. Most of us use AAA, and/or have a z06 tire patch repair kit. It's been 5 1/2 years since I've had a runflat tire on a Corvette. I drive mine harder than probably 90% of Corvette owners, and have been fine.

get non-runflat tires for better handling and ride I bought a wagner air pump and had a buddy that owns a tire shop to get me a industrial tire plug kit in case I get a nail. I have had my car 5 yrs and no flats

Thanks for the help.
I just thought the new C6's and Goodyear have increased the ability of the new run flats to be both quiet and handle as well as the non run flats. I guess I am wrong.
I know Firestone's tires are not as wide as the Super Car even though listed as the same size. Is the SC the widest tire made for a given size?
What are your thoughts on the Michelin(sp?) Sport Cup ?
I only want a dry weather total performance tire.

definitely a non run flat
If you want to drive a tank and live in a heavy construction site stick with a run flat but if you want handling performance a non runflat is the way to go. Most run flat last about 20,000 miles . The non run flat nitto's I ran were half the price for an entire set and lasted 70,000 miles. Simple answer and like gentlemen above posted get a heavy duty air compressor that will inflate a tire in 2 mins and one that plugs to the battery not the cigarette lighter and heavy duty tire plug kit that will penertrate that thick low profile tire.

Performance aside, I also have a Chevy SSr with non runflats and no spare and you better believe it seems just because you have no spare you will get flat tires especially with the wide tires you will be running. Remember Murphy? It is a real pain and in my case limits certain destinations. Good luck, Rob

The runflats do not come in the C5 Z06 sizes that I know of. If you want the security of not having to stop to change a flat on the side of the road, get the runflats. Otherwise, to maximize the ride and handling and minimize the road noise, get nonrunflats.

I like the peace of mind that Runflats give me so I keep buying them.

Some facts:
1) New (C6) runflats do not come in C5 or C5 Z06 sizes and they will only run 50 miles flat.
2) Old C5 OEM runflats:
a) Will go 200 miles at 55 mph on a flat. Can be fixed (patched) up to 50 miles.
b) Have tread wider than C5 ZO6 tires. They look great on a C5.
c) Will get 3 mpg better gas mileage than non-runflat radials. (Corvette Enthusiast Magazine did test) Due to stiffer sidewalls and much less rolling friction.
d) Will handle better than most non-runflat radials. (Corvette Enthusiast Magazine did test) Due to stiffer sidewalls.
e) Will ride rougher than non-runflats. This is mainly because the C5 suspension was made softer to compensate for the stiffer tires. Sure putting non-runflat radials on it will make it ride softer.
f) Will NOT hook-up (accelerate) as good as non-runflat radials.

I got runflat Mich pilot sport and they are much quieter than the goodyear runcraps. I debated the non runflats as I too have AAA....but the deciding factor for me was what happens IF I get a flat and have to pull off the road. Will it damage the car because of the low ride? I have driven my p/u truck 251000 and had only one flat because the valve core leaked it all out while I was out of town. I may buy non run flats next but I will have to build up the courage first.
Non runflats are MUCH quieter and handle MUCH better. Not too mention they are about 2/3rds the cost.
