Default $7000?

I have $7000 to spend! What would you spend it on? i have a 2002 Z06 no mods. I'm thinking A&A supercharger kit installed and tuned $6500. hawksthridgen.com local to me with a great reputation with LS motors. My only concern is it safe with my motor which has 80k miles? It want see any track days and it is daily driver about half the time. What do you think? Thanks for any help

Sounds like a fine plan to me. You could also do a very nice/effective heads and cam build with that money. Hope the rest of your driveline is up to task...

I'd do brakes and suspension before big dollar (supercharger) performance upgrades...

I'd keep your eye out for a nice clean used kit. Then with the money you saved upgrade your clutch and tires to handle the extra power Nothing is worse than getting the power adder all installed only to tear it back down a week later because your clutch gave up the ghost. Ask me how I know....

The mileage is a non issue. Either your engine is good, or your engine is bad. A compression test before you invest the money wouldnt hurt.

The sc would be a great mod but you have to baby it because you will be over 500 hp to the wheels. Approximate 575-600 engine power so your clutch will fail. It might even fail durring the dyno tune.

Do the s/c. The clutch will be fine as long as you're not doing any drag-race type launches

Buy my twin turbo kit, methanol kit, boost controller, and fuel system, spend 800 or so on install if that, and the other grand spend on a clutch

You can do suspension, such as Pfadt bushing kit, sways, and killer shocks with a nice alignment. You can do new brake lines, fluid, and a nice set of pads. And a new clutch and shifter. Then you can do Long tubes with hi- flows and a mild tune. All that will be under 7k and you will be ready for FI. 80K and 10 years old I'm sure you will feel that work and be amazed.

80K miles is a lot of miles, I would use the money to have a fresh 402 built if I were you....

I advise against it, especially since its a daily driver and youre not taking into consideration that youll need a new clutch and rear tires to make use of that power. Too many miles on the block and with it being a daily driver and racking up more miles quickly youll be needing a new bottom end before youre ready to dump another $6K into it!

Like someone said.. drop a new 402 with a streetable cam in it and that way you have a 0 mile car again.

For all these guys saying boost your car do it do it... They should start a collection for you when you start breaking ****... Like I said, Start a fresh motor build and have it forged so you can do boost the right way down the road... Or you can just have your factory block freshened up, bored and honed to a 347 with all forged internals minus the crank since the factory crank is good for damn near a 1000hp... That should run you around 3500, While its apart have them do a cam swap, get some headers and have some extra cheese to do a clutch...

well that depends on how mechanically inclined you are; if you are able to do the work yourself. then send the blockout & have it bored. get your heads ported & polished. pick you up a stroker kit, cam, LSX intake w/102mm throttle body, stronger clutch, underdrive pullies, & some headers. then you will have a new motor with a ton of power & clutch to handle all that power.

I would buy one of the several used A&A kits that is for sale right now in the C5 parts section here at CF.....Several for $3500 or so... Install it yourself then pay $500-600 for a tune... Now youre at say, $4100....

Either find a deal on some used LT headers and X pipe OR maybe look at the XS Power headers/x pipe package that is on sale right now... I think around $700.

Spend $650 on a ECS Alky control meth kit, strictly for safety...Don't tune it for meth dependency...

$5450...

Spend the last $1500 on a decent clutch and have it installed... You will have to get a single disk to stay under budget.....You can find a few clutches that will hold the power and drive ok and still clear the budget.... (Spec 3+, Textrailia etc etc)...

Now you came out at $7000, your engine will be tuned safely and have meth for back up safety/peace of mind....you have a fresh clutch you know will hold the power.....Best of all you'll be over 600rwhp that drives like a completely stock car....

80k miles is NOTHING on an LS motor.... NOTHING..... We have guys down here putting turbos on 150k mile 5.3s and making 550rwhp through auto trannies and they are living fine with meth and a good tune...I guarantee your stock 80k mile 02 LS6 is still making the same power as a 10k mile LS6....It will handle boost fine..... Just keep it at 8-10 psi, tune it conservatively then add the meth... It will live a long time.

PS....
Since you have an 02, I would HIGHLY suggest you replace the valve springs at the same time....You can get springs and seals for <$200.... I would do this even if you do NOTHING else.... 02 springs are a ticking time bomb!

Now unless your LS6s are more fragile than the LS1's.... I ran 480rwhp through a 100+k mile Ls1 and the original clutch for 3 years. Then turned the boost up, and added meth, and made 512rwhp for another year and a half. The car finally started using oil after 4 1/2 years of boost and I had never even had the intake manifold or valve covers taken off.

But hey. Maybe your Z06s are junk and are more fragile than the regular coupes...

I would do a used A&A kit and you can pick up a twin disc ACT clutch for under a grand(PM me for a link if you need it). Throw in a good blower cam, upgrade valve springs, and keep the boost around 7psi. You don't even need meth if you have a good tuner in your area. Make 550-600rwhp all day long.
