Default HELP! Reverse light fuse keeps blowing!

Hey guys,

So a LONG time ago I made a thread about how my auto-dimming mirrors stopped working and that my reverse lights also won't turn on.

The reverse lights work when I approach the car so I know it's not the bulbs or anything.

I was told to replace fuse #21 uner the passenger seat. So after a long time of being lazy, I did that today and it worked . . . for 10 minutes.

I drove home after I relpaced the fuse in teh pep=boys parking lot. Iparked and replaced my clutch fluid, then turned on the car again and noticed the green LED in the rear-view is not on anymore.

I pulled the fuse again and it had blown! I replaced it and it blew again. So I went through a few fuses to see when it happens. Basically, I put in a new fuse, turn the key to "ON" everything is fine until I throw it into reverse and hear a distinctive *click* and, sure enough, the fuse blws again. So obviously I've concluded it has to do with the reverse lights.

Now i'm stuck as to what to do.

Any of you guys got any suggestions? I'm not that experienced electrically, so please help me out here.

Thanks everyone!

Odd...I would maybe try replacing the bulbs just because it's a cheap experiment. If that doesn't help, then you've got to start chasing the wiring and grounds, etc. to make sure everything looks clean.

It's hard to say, without looking at a wiring diagram. There's obviously a connection between the two parts. Looking a diagram would show where this connection is, and then you could narrow down possible causes.

Shoot a PM to forum member Bill Curlee. I used to see him post electrical diagrams for folks that needed them, and he seemed pretty sharp on his knowledge of troubleshooting that stuff.

I had the same thing happen to me, went thru a whole box of fuses. It was the back up lamp switch on the tranny, $45 at O'Reilly. I'd try that before chasing wires. Here's a diagram also...2THOSE

As requested:

Heres the schematic that you need. I would have to say that the switch on the passengers side of the tranny is suspect. They go bad a lot!! Examine the wiring and check the switch for shorts to ground when actuated.'

I planned on doing that actually that's why i wanted a part number. Not sure how easily I can find it by just saying "I need the back-up lamp switch for my Z06."

I was rolly going to go down to O'Reilly.

Sorry to bring this thread back up, but its a top search in google and I have a relative issue.

My car's backup lights will not turn on, ever. No key fob or anything. I also noticed my auto-dim button never worked either. I did not know until reading this thread that they may be related. I pulled up the passenger fuse panel and noticed fuse #21 was missing. I put a new 10A fuse in there but nothing changed. Still no back up lights with keyfob or in reverse. I removed the fuse and it is still good.

What do I try next? I understand if it is a bad backup switch that it would continuously pop that #21 fuse. Perhaps a bad relay? I may try swapping relays under the hood but I thought I would get your input first. Thanks!

THE SCHEMATIC IS IN POST 12 Get a meter and get cracken.. See where you have voltage and where you dont.

Actually check the voltage at the fuses. When the switch goes bad, they fail to ground the circuit and the light dont work when you select reverse.

Are you sure the bulbs are good? Test with an OHM Meter.
