I've heard conflicting comments on intakes seeing a lot of oil with the oiled CAI's. I questioned if they had over oiled and the answer was no. Anybody have any info on one versus the other, I'm looking at the AFE and K&N. Thanks in advance.

I used an olied filter, I use the K&N cleaning kit, Do as the kit tells you, Don't over oil the filter. The dry filters are not cleanable as far as I knoe and in my opinion the oiled filter does a better job.

Thanks Bill, Thats what I wanted to hear. Did the K&N require any cutting of the schroud? Thanks Again. Trainor

I over-oiled mine once...I now put hardly any oil on. Bad results if over-oiled...will muck up the little wires in the MAF sensor. The problem is the process is subjective ...you really don't have any idea when enough oil is achieved...I know one thing for sure, do not try to wet (darken) every square inch of filter media....the oil will migrate throughout the media over time. After doing the job and waiting about a week or so, open your hood and look to see if any oil has dripped onto the hardware directly under the filter....that is how I knew I over did it...lots of oil came off the filter.

I run a Blackwing on my car and it is an oiled filter. I think it does a better job of catching the dirt than a non-oiled filter. Anyway, good advice about not putting too much oil on the filter if you go that route.
I just purchased an AFE system with a dry filter. The fit was very tight in my car, but looks pretty good. I'm makeing an aluminum box to keep the water and under hood hot air out. The filter itself is real nice and cleaning looks easy. Don't see why the dry filter wouldn't be just as good at filtering than the stock paper filter. Has at least twice as much filtering area as stock. Only thing is, the setup I got was too big for the smaller maf meter, and I used the original gasket that was on the stock box. Guess we'll see how it does in a few months

The K&N FIPK does require cutting of the shroud, according to their instructions. However, the space created by propping open the cut lower radiator cover does allow cold air to enter the engine bay and cool off the intake air.
I went one step further by cutting out a rectangular hole, screwing on stainless steel mesh screen, and then adding a polycarbonate "scoop" that reallly cools down the engine bay.
One of the latest Halltech intake systems includes moving the MAF sensor so that is much further away from the oiled filter element. This is what Callaway does with their setup as well (mimics the C6 intake system).
