Thank you for confirming what I thought!

Any REASON to stop you that is VALID,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,suspicious or not, whether you get the ticket or a warning. It's a crime fighting tactic. It was started in the 90's.
Basically it works like this, anything that is in the vehicle codes of laws that you violate and can be stopped for, do it. That way the drivers license can be checked and WOW!, Suspended, warrant, wanted, open container, drugs and the best, SOMEONE ABOUT TO COMMIT A CRIME.......get's stopped for something stupid and id'd, now they go home, without committing the crime. Maybe some one's life was saved.......................

Now if you drive with clear violations, then expect to be stopped. Go after murderers you say..............you never know who is in the car.
Just last week an officer in SC went to stop a suspicious car and was killed. ROUTINE STOP, yes, did she know that only hours earlier the driver had killed his girlfriend in another state and it was not discovered yet. And of course, there is the story of the serial killer in LI, NY who had a fresh body in the rear of his pickup and was stopped for a MINOR traffic infraction and was busted..................

So fine, you want to drive with violations and then complain about being stopped, go head. Pay the fine.

Some insurance companies will not cover you if it is found out that you helped your demise (no seatbelt) In the last four months 95% of the fatalities in SC was to drivers who had no belt on..............As far as I am concerned, no warning, pay the price.

When I first moved to SC, I tried to get the department to go from checking property all night long, to pay attention to drivers..........Only after a few of us retired northern-nors came down and started to make QUALITY arrests on BS but legal car stops, did they start to listen.
I'm with you..............................

USDOT allows 35% on side windows and anything on the rear. Washington allows 35% all the way around except the windshield on pass cars and 35% on front sides and anything behind on trucks. My truck is Washington legal and I have been stopped in CA with WA plates. Since I live in WA and am DOT and WA legal don't you agree that is wrong? I keep a copy of the WA law and the DOT law in the truck and have not been ticketed yet. But they should never have stopped me.

I flew out to Colorado last week to attend my nephew's graduation from the police academy. When I arrived, he asked that I and his wife pin his badge on, which was a great honor for me. He served in the military just like your son, and has wanted to be a police officer for years. I couldn't help but think how much he reminded me of myself when I was younger. He's intelligent, dedicated, and will be every bit of the police officer I was, and more. Police officers today have to put up with so much more than we did in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. I've talked with him every day to see how things are going with his FTO. I told him at the graduation how proud I am of him. The great thing is that there are still men and women out there who are willing to put their lives on the line every day for complete strangers. It doesn't get any better than that.

I detest tax accessors. It's fundamentally retarded. Red light cameras in our town have increased rear end collisions and caused more injuries to it's citizens trying to comply with the private red light camera companies allocated time to cross intersections.

They say it helps prevent the deaths of victims from others who run red lights, BUT doesn't count the far greater numbers of broken bodies of victims who are rearended and the destruction of property generated by said red light cameras.

What happened to the good ole days when Police actually caught red light violators?

Link to data from municipalites noting increased collisions and injuries.

You also can't drive 56mph in a 55mph zone, technically. Enforcement of the law is fine. It's the inconsistency that bugs me.

Heaven forbid that any one would "Dare" be critical of a police officer!

Especially those who have so much experience (with the exception of course of television and the movies) in the profession.

I notice that on red lights that cameras were recently installed that I traveled through for years that the yellow time was significantly reduced, therefore trapping most cars since there is not quite enogh time to stop without being rear ended. The ticket I got was for making a legal right on red. The problem was that I did not come to a complete stop before the line before proceeding with my turn. I actually did completely stop but my front wheels were over the line, therefore giving me the ticket. For 50 bucks it wasnt worth trying to fight as I would have lost anyway, but I find it very stressful driving this way. On Long Island the cameras are popping up at intersections almost daily and approching any green light is a chance of getting a ticket or slamming on your brakes as soon as the yellow comes on and hope your not rear ended. If anything they should increase the yellow time to give cars a better chance of not being ticketed and catch those who do blatently run the light given ample time to stop. Just my .02

I think those cameras are a danger, instead of going thru the yellow light I see people slamming on their brakes because they don't know how much time they have.

Police are just human, some good [most of them] and some bad!
We certainly need them, especially now days with all the drugged out nut cases running around and I certainly wouldn't want their job! My wife has been with the police dept for 22 years [gun range-training acadamy so I am pretty familiar with the department. Like the wife says, Most are great people and some are "cowboys" or even criminals on rare occassions.
For Devildog from one veteran to another!

Some here might think their window tint looks cool and cant understand why they get "hassled by the man" over it. I look at it as something that might be standing between my son and a criminal with a gun who, given a chance, will do him harm. Don't get me wrong, I've had my share of traffic tickets in my life, most of which I deserved. But there is a whole different side to this "cops are aholes" issue. I'm 56 years old, spent 30 years as a United States Marine, and am a veteran of three combat deployments, two to Iraq and one to Desert Storm. The last thing I want to have to do is bury my son because he gets blown away by some POS with tinted windows at a traffic stop.

Well yeah like no cop was ever assaulted by drivers that didn't have tint. And criminals in one state are more gentlemanly in other states and never assault a cop if they have tint. But in other states, tint will make everyone assault them.

Sounds about right!
