C5 pricing
Well, we missed the called for snow storm. So, has anyone noticed an uptick in the prices for C5's? I was just looking at one of those free autos for sale books for our area (southeast Michigan) and even the higher mileage 98's were being listed for over $20k. I bought my 40,000 mile 2000 coupe last fall for $16k. Are Vette's like boats and season priced? Just asking.

Those are most likely dealer inventory and they are typically higher priced. But I do think the prices are rebounding. Not because of the car itself but because most of the fire sales are over from the bad economy. What's left are cars for sale where the owners aren't in a pinch. At least that's what I see.

C5's are still depreciating but going into spring the prices do rise a bit. High mileage '98s for over $20K though is not realistic.

I have been looking for quite a while. I see a lot of them that are priced pretty high, but I see them for a long time because they don't sell.
I don't think many get what they are asking. I think a lot of them are open to offers several thousand less than they are asking. Even some of the lower prices cars can still be negotiated lower. The last 5 I bought all came off their asking price and averaged over a thousand discount. Four of these were pretty low priced to begin with.
I have also sold a few too. Nearly all sold for less than what I was asking.
It is all about finding a balance between the buyer and seller to find something that works for both and make the deal.

Before I bought my 2004 last month I spent some time researching Ebay to see what they were actually selling for. Very few of the cars that are offered actually sell and you need to look at the "Completed" sales. That's a good indication of what they are worth.

As usual, the lower mile garage queens are holding ther own, but all C5's are dropping annually in price. Corvettes are seasonally priced; better deals during the Fall and Winter than Spring and early Summer.

If you are buying it to enjoy and drive and plan on keeping it for a few years or longer You may be ahead to care more about the condition and milage than price so much. I've been offered $18,000 for my "99" coupe but I bought it to enjoy and really don't want to make the same mistake I did before with my old "97" and sell it to regret it later. My Vette is in like new condition and drives like a new car.
Sometimes you can make a big mistake by buying by price only and then find out that great deal isn't so great after all.

Yep I have found that few cars actually sell on Ebay. I have seen cars not sell when the highest bid was $500 from the Buy it now price. I don't think sellers to into acct what cars actually sell for when pricing a car. Sellers need to do their research just like buyers. I have seen cars priced $1000's over what car dealers are asking. I just shake my head and wonder if they really want to sell a car.

I got my 98 with 80,000 miles on it and a lot of good mods (borla exhaust, big brake, new clutch, etc.) for $13,000 in November. For $20,000? It better have less than 20,000 miles on it.
