car was paid off, got me a rentel dodge charger for now, insurance will only pay me about 5000.00 after like the invest is complete.
first and foremost i am glad you and your son were not hurt, and sorry for what happened to you and your once beautiful Corvette. i can't believe the insurance company is only going to give you $5,000, that car must be worth at least $20K or more? what gives with that?
I'm sure we all appreciate your feelings, but in reality, it can be replaced. You and your son are what's important. God was really your "co-pilot".
Just hug your son and count your blessings.

First, glad you are safe and alive and that you got your son out of the car and had the presence of mind to think safety first. It could have been much worse!
Second, did you have a hood liner? I thought they were designed to suffocate engine fires before they expand.
Third, if you would have had access to a fire extinguisher do you think it would have helped save the car? I have friends who have them mounted in front of the passenger seat for this exact scenario.
Several years ago I took my vette off my regular insurance and bought collector car insurance. They offer their policies with "replacement value" coverage. I have my 99 MN6 coupe covered for $20k.

yes it had the hood liner, and yes for now on im carrying one in my car.

I was wondering whether the hoodliner helped. There is another active thread weighing the pros and cons of removing it for more engine bling, etc. so I guess this proves what it does or does not do.
I have also been considering a mounted fire extinguisher and your unfortunate event has now convinced me to definitely install one.
Again, I'm glad no one was hurt. Cars can be replaced.

First off, sure glad you and your son are OK - the car can be replaced. But sorry you lost your prized Vette - had to be tough watching it be destroyed.
Sorry for your loss.
Seriously argue the $5000 pay out. Your insurance should atleast give you Kelly Blue Book or NADA value. That's lower than KBB trade in - good value $19,097 for a coupe, and $10,954 for Z06. Some insurance companies are notorious for trying to get you to settle for half or less than half of the book values. Had to deal with that dog and pony show myself.

Most important thing is you and your son were not hurt. You're also lucky it didnt catch fire inside your garage or in the driveway and burn your house down.
