Never take the first figure from the insurance company. When they totaled a Passat of mine, they tried to tell me it had no leather, paint not in good condition, etc. I proved them wrong on every count, sent receipts on the mods on the car and pictures of its condition before. It had just over 100K...and I doubled what their initial offer was.
Also, I always keep a Fire extinguisher in my Cars...in the Vette its in one of the trunk cubbies (bolted).
1st thing: you and your son are safe and sound
2nd thing: it's only metal and plastic
3rd thing: find a nasty eat your leg off lawyer and get what you deserve....a fair deal!
a sad story but don't let the insurance company make you a victim....!!!!! you have suffered enuf already....

$9k tops? I think not! I am an insurance agent at the National Corvette Museum and deal with this daily. If you need help let me know....It is really easy to pull comparables on the market for more than $9k!

It's nice to see more than just advice coming to the aid of a member who's misfortune shouldn't cost him one. Very good, I commend your offer.
