Default Gas Prices.

I would like to offer my condolences to those of our fellow Vette owners in Britain. I just learned that gas prices there for regular average $8.26 per gallon.
And we think we have it bad!

Hope not. Talk about crippling the economy. That would bring it to a screeching hault.

I don't even want to think what it would cost to fill up a decent size boat for a nice day of pleasure on the lake or a motorhome trip cross country!

Not only that, but as gas prices go up, people will chose to fly, and you know airfare prices are going to go up

For the average family of 4 to go to Disney World to spend a fortune, it's going to cost them a small fortune to even get there first!

Just as the economy was just starting to get a little better POW!!! Right back in the Toilet!

I just don't understand why they have to go up so much, are we going to run out of oil or what?

Gas prices are only that high in Europe to pay the tax man. It's part of funding their government benefits, like it was in the caste system of long ago. As long as the peasants keep buying their share of fuel the lords can give government handouts. It's a vicious cycle of economics.

If my fellow Americans ever get their ***** back like the days of the Boston Tea party maybe they can regain control of their lives again.

Please note that regular fuel in europe is 95 octane and premium 105..so put those prices for our premium. European gas has high octane not because they are concerned with auto preformance but for enviromental reasons, less pollution more complete combustion. That is also why fuel is so expensive....maybe keep some cars off of the road! Greetings, Rob

Regular/mid-grade went up ten cents a gallon today to $3.49. I fully expect it to go near $4.00 before summer sets in. Those of you already paying $4.00+/gallon, .

Got a 5,000+ mile vacation scheduled (Napa, CA to Bowling Green, Ky then to Indy 500 and back home). Hoping I won't have to pay $5/gallon even knowing I can average 26+ miles/gallon with my 2007 A6 C6. Figured once I'm on the flatlands I might go mid-grade. Paid $4.69 for 91 at a Chevron in Paso Robles, CA last weekend.

Thanks for the thoughts Ultimate Ride

The BBC ran a story on the news yesterday and the highest price in UK this week was £1.56 a litre. Converting that to US gallons at this weeks $/£ exchange rate I make that $9.20 a gallon. There's a further hike in fuel duty planned for August and, if it goes ahead, it will add another 3 pence per litre (about $.20/gallon). There's a major campaign running to get the Government to cancel the planned tax hike.

For El Original, gas here is measured in RON not PON as in the US. You normally find premium 99/98 octane which is equivalent to US 94 or regular 95 octane which is the same as US 91 octane. Very few cars use Premium gas and I struggle to even find it on sale outside the towns.

It's absolutely true that most of it is tax and at the last count it was about 70%. Sadly the "Robin Hood" scenario that SFC Rick describes isn't quite how things work here. Most Americans who live here find the UK very similar to many US States other than the fact that my £ buys about the same as my $ bought when I lived in the US but it's worth 1.6 more in theory. Gone are the days of Lords and peasants and the taxman isn't too worried about where his cash comes from. High fuel prices affect everyone equally. Most goods are delivered by road and it just takes too long to move around in anything other than a car. Those of us who live in the sticks and don't have the luxury of public transport probably suffer more.

For Blitzkrieg, my boat has an 80 litre tank so it costs about $200 to fill it up. The last fill up for the Vette was $120. I'm one of the lucky ones and I can find the cash. For some on a minimum wage fuel is now one of their major budget items.

Thanks again for thinking about us Ultimate Ride

Despite everything I still put 98 Octane Premium gas in the Vette

Gas is an unbelievable 12 cents a gallon in Venezuela! Of course you'd have to live under control of a complete "madman" [Hugo Chavez]. Our own "dictator" is practically Thomas Jefferson compared to Chavez so I guess it could be a lot worse.

Paid $3.219 on 2/14/12. Last night the wife and I saw most stations at $3.999. And, the price of crude fell yesterday. If you look at mass transportation you will find that the East Coast from New England down to Virginia is where most can be found. This country is big and getting around in most places is by personal vehicles. My point? We're stuck under the thumb of big oil. In short, we're screwed.

Now that Canada is going to build the second leg of the pipeline we can forget about ever having lower gas than the rest of the country again. They are purposely attempting to take oil from the midwest to refine to sell to china. And we know the posic won't allow more drilling to make up for it.
