Default 18s front and rear

I seen a local car with 18s front and rear and the guy said he does it so he can rotate. Any draw backs to this? I can get a new set of repo C5Z06s for around $900 and would run 265/35 front and back.

I don't see how he can rotate the tires, First off you have to have different size tires front and rear not to upset the T/C, Most tires are directional so you can't go side by side.
I have 18 inch wheels on all 4 corners on my car, But the tires are different front to rear.

I think the only way you could rotate them would be if you go with the same size tires on all four corners. Personally, I'd think you'd want wider tires on the rear for better traction.

with Mr. Bill - unless you have an appropriate stagger in overall wheel/tire diameter front to rear, you will have some problems with T/C.

Not to mention that 265/35s on an 18x9.5" rim would look way too small in the rear wheel well. Even 295/35s are smaller in diameter than the stock 275/40s.

You'll be fine --

The main thing is keeping the tire height within a 1/2" from the stock height tire

Thanks,Matt

Default help your friend out

There's a very good chance your friend doesn't understand the front/rear stagger requirement, and won't until he tries to rotate his tires. You could save him some trouble down the road by explaining it to him or by pointing him toward the forum for an explanation.

Just explain to him that the TC system requires a tire height stagger from rear to front (rear slightly taller).

That said, you can have 18's front and rear (or 19's, or whatever) as long as the rear tires are taller. Tire height depends on TIRE size, not WHEEL size

I don't know the guy, just saw him after leaving a doctor and was wondering why the fronts looked weird to me, so caught him at a light and asked him about it, and that's what he told me. That's why I asked the question before I went and did it.

If it looked weird why would you want to go out and do it?

I liked the idea of front to back rotation. So wanted to know if there was anything good about it, but I guess not. oh well as long as I can drive fast thats all that counts.
