When I got my car it had Michlin RF on the front and not the back. Got a flat in the back about the second week and bought the Michlin RF for the back. I like them and they work pretty good in the rain.
Is this true? I had never heard of a tire giving 3 mpg better fuel economy.
ast
Corvette Enthusiast magazine actually tested them at 3.3 mpg better mileage. They get better mileage because they are runflats and have less rolling resistance. They are the only runflats to ever be certified to go 200 miles flat (and then need replaced, but can do 50 miles at 55 mph and be fixed), so they get better mileage than any runflats.
Other runflats are only certified for 50 miles and some must then be replaced.
My 2002 Vert with 20k miles came with a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport AS ZP run flats on stock size ZO6 look wheels. I've had a number of high end sports cars over the years. My last Corvette was a 1994 ZR1.
Anyway, this C5 was one of the overall poorest handling and riding sports cars I've ever owned. The ride, handling and noise level was generally worse than my 1989 Z51 coupe and much worse than the ZR1. I love mountain roads and getting near the limits, but not with this car.
So, after several months of research I almost went with the PS2's but finally put the new Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires – 305/30 19*& *275/35 18 on a set of Chromed FR C5 ZO6 look 19x11 & 18x9.5 wheels.
As others have said in this thread, without the run flats, the C5 is a whole new beast and bears no resemblance whatsoever to the pathetic skittish hoppy thing it formerly was with run flats.
Braking, cornering, ride, and noise level are now all world class. This car will never see a run flat again. You could give me a set but they would be up for sale on here the next day. The Michelins are probably the best of the run flat options, but the Goodyears are a nightmare, particularly with respect to cornering ability.
AAA Card in the wallet and Slime, puncture kit, and pump in the trunk and high performance tires are the only way to go.
I replaced my garbage runflats with Goodyear Eagle GS D3s a few years back..excellent tire, looks good, fills in the wheel well nicely..Some tires look to small(not enough sidewall) and look goofy on the stock rim

I just bought a set of Michelin Pilot Sport AS Plus ZP. I like the security of the run flats since I take my car on trips. It had the original tires on it and there is a world of difference in the noise and ride with the Michelins. But the Goodyears do look better.

I have the mich zp on my vette and I am thinking about going back to Goodyear run flats when it is time for me to purchase tires. I agree I got a quiet ride but I feel I lost some performance .
