Default C-5 replacement tires

Hello all, I am in need of new treads......not sure however if I should go with the "Run Flats" type as I have heard the performance is not as good as regular High Performance tires.

Which brand would be good for my '98.....either RF or HP?

Thanks all,

Mayo

Personally I like the peace of mind of runflats. I take my car on several long road trips a year.

Same here but I couldn't stand the poor performance of the run flats. Bought a pair of needle nose pliers, tire patch kit and a little cigarette lighter air compressor for a temp repair in the event of well, you know. They all fit in one small lower trunk compartment. Good to go!

Ditch the "runcraps".....it was the best MOD on the Vette yet.

It really depends on if you want the security of runflats or not. Runflats will not give you the ride and handling of the non-runflats, but you won't be stranded on the side of the road in most instances either if you get a puncture.

I am running non-runflats on my car right now - Hankook Ventus V12 EVOs and like them a lot. Very good price compared to many other tires.

Bridgestone Potenzas 760 Sports, non run flats. In stock sizes, Tire Rack should be able to hook you up for under $800. Great tires, really bites down, also great tire in the wet. Having run flats will give you the same sensation as driving the "Flintmobile", and very expensive especially at replacement time. As far as flat tire worries, AAA for about $80 bucks a year.

I don't mind the runflats at all. I replaced my Michelin non run flats with the factory correct Goodyears two years ago, and have been happy with them.

My 2001 convertible came with run flats and I noticed a major difference when I went to non RF Michelin PS2's. Amazed at the difference in handling and ride. I have new Continental Extreme Contact DW's on the Z06 and also think the DW's are great tires.
I carry Slime, inflator, and tire repair kit but because of the long distances in Arizona I think I found a 17" wheel to put on a 255-45-17 tire which is the exact same overall diameter as my 295-35-18 ( which is on both the Z06 and the 2001 with Z06 wheels).
When I took the run flats off I was surprised at how heavy they were compared to the Conti's and PS2's. Add the way too stiff side walls and no wonder they handle like solid rubber tires.
If you want better handling get the non RF's with a inflator/Slime or a spare.

The OEM Goodyear run flats w I'll give you 3 mpg better gas mileage. They actually handle better and are wider than all stock sizes. They are even wider than the ZO6 tires! Hence, they look great. They also wear well.

They do ride harder and will not hookup as good on acceleration.

Have you ever tried to use your plug kit on the side of the road to make a repair?

NITTO 555's (non-run flats, OEM sizes) you can get a full set for ~$650 from discount tire, free shipping. i have a compressor and a can of slime... and my USAA roadside coverage, just in case. the ride is so much quieter and smooth than my gy runflats.

Yes I have, after dark in the Southern California desert and everything worked as planned. I have added an emergency blanket since that event because you can't always pick where you will be required to pull off of the road. I will buy non-runflats again.

Fortunately no! If it ever happens I'm sure it will be at night in a bad weather.

Don't jinx me now - had this kit unused in my car for over 8 years.

I've been searching the forum on this subject and this is something that caught my attention because I never realized that was the case. Does this mean the OEM Goodyear run-flats are wider than all other tires with the same nominal size?

I've read very good things here about the run-flat Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZP and thought that if they were the same sizes than my OEMs (ie P245/45ZR17 and P275/40ZR18) they would have the same profile/width...

Anyone?

Could somebody please describe how the run-flat Michelins mentioned above look installed when compared to the OEMs?
