Ok, I ordered some new shocks for my Vette and this is how they arrive.... crushed box with absolutely no void fill.
So I open the individual shock boxes and this is what I find:
They look like they are leaking... WTF.
I call the supplier and they tell me that it's a preservation oil that's put on the body to prevent rusting. If that's the case, why isn't it uniform and on all the shocks? I ask about the packaging and I'm told that it's not a part that is easily damaged so it's not needed.
Now I manage 5 distribution centers around the world for a major jet engine manufacturer and I would never in a million years ship a customer order like this. Certainly not a good first impression for sure.
What would you do??? install them or send them back? I had my entire weekend planned around these shocks and now I don't know if I should install them for fear that they are leaking.
I would install them... Don't get too stressed out with the package. My brakes came in the same way and I installed them and I love them. If there is an issue with them let us know... if they don't take care of you we will all boycott them and they will lose business.
I wouldn't waste my time installing them. They look questionable. My bilstiens came in smaller boxes that did not allow the shock to move around, but they were still loose in the boxes. All 4 boxes were also band strapped together too. Tire Rack for the win.

The so called "loose pack" is a joke. Even bricks would be tightly boxed for shipping purposes. Reveal the vendor please...you won't be banished from the forum...on the contrary, you will be honored.

I want to see how they handle this situation first. I understand "things" happen but it's how these "things" are dealt with that brings a consumer back. I trust they will do right by me but at the same time, they lost their one chance to make a good first impression and that's unfortunate..... I know how important that first impression is and how much it takes to get them back in your store for a second chance.
And yes... I have decided to return them. I just can't take the chance of having to do the job twice. I'll update this post after I hear back from the supplier and let you all know how they handled this.
I just got a box today with my new Bilsteins from Corvette Central, there was plenty of open space in the box which was filled up with packing material. all 4 struts and their individual boxes are in perfect condition.
