I don't know why you are even comparing the two. The Corvette is a sports car. The Charger is a sedan.
Might as well compare a VW to a pickup.
, funny you should mention the two. On my way home from work today (electrician) I was in my 8500 lb dodge Crew cab, hemi, 8 ft bed, 4 wheel drive pickup. as I waited at a light, a young man pulls up next to me in his VW Jetta/GTI?. He revs a couple of times to let me know that hes going to pass me on the right. as the light changes, he bogs the launch and I stay aheaf of him for 9 miles till I had to turn off.

While not as dramatic a comparison, I held off a V8 Charger (had exhaust, otherwise I would assume V6) in the same manner in my pig of a truck (5400#). I assume, being a V8, he had me by 100hp and 1000#, but it didn't pan out for him. I will say driving the Vette in situations like that is really, really satisfying. Just like when there's only a small gap to smoke multiple cars going unnecessarily slow, no problemo! I smoke 'em sooner and stop being pissed sooner so I can get on with my day.
If I wanted to see cars like that I can look at the 60's. Been done already...too bad America cant be a little more creative. The day the vette goes retro replay is the day I'm done.
The Corvette will always be a unique vehicle not withstanding that it doesnt share its chassis with anything else, so it can be designed to be smaller/lighter. Because the Mustang and Camaro shares their structures with other vehicles, therye going to be larger from jump street. If the automakers ever get flush with cash and come up with something original, 2900-3100 lb Camaros and Mustangs will probably be part of our future. And if GM ever decides to make the Corvette a stand alone delalership network, with $150K+ Corvettes being the norm, a smaller lighter more original Camaro could even be the next "halo" model for Chevy.
Yes, I really do not like the 4' thick front ends, when I pull up beside one in either of my Vettes I have to look up, like its an SUV or something. Mine are low though.
here is the difference, in my C5 i cannot go to the pay toll both because i cant reach up high enough to get the change in the basket. in my wifes 07 mustang i easily drop the change down into the basket.

...its like making a free throw to get the damn change in the bucket!

The Camaro is supposed to move to the new smaller/lighter platform shared with the Caddy ATS. Hopefully, it will knock 300lbs off the current porky F-body.
