So I have been looking at replacement options. Went to the sears sight, where they list a replacement: 75 700 cca, 100 min reserve, but then it shows that it is not available. Huh????

Chevy wants 200 bucks. Can't find a non dealer that has Delco batteries.

The closest I find is at auto zone or advance auto. Oh and of course the Optima brand seem very available.

Any experience with the auto zone or advance auto brand batteries?

Bosch offers good batteries but the least expensive, yet good performing battery title goes to the Costco Kirkland at $70. I've been running one for a while now with no problems.

Look at who makes the battery, not what brand it is.

You will find Johnson controls makes a lot of different brands.

Including kirkland for costco.

I just bought a Autozone Platinum gr 78 AGM. I believe it is a Deka Intimidator with Autozones name on it.

Guess I'm lucky. Local independent parts store I deal with is a big Delco distributor and has excellent prices. I recently bought the same size in a top post for around 70 bucks and it's a 7 year. So if the time comes, it's a no brainer for me. Advance wanted $90 for the same thing.

Dang, that's gotta be the most expensive (and heaviest) battery for C5s in the world!

The Costco Kirkland battery should last 4-5 years. Hopefully, yours lasts at least 12-15 years to justify the cost difference.

haha... I hear you Dave but I'm fine with the cost so long as I don't have anymore of the problems associated with inadequate RC.

But....the again....so is he

From the other thread:

Drank the cool aid and did the Red Top thing, also watched many threads where people said "I never have a problem with my Red Top"....that just wasn't my experience.

Did the research and found that the Red Top does meet the original criteria for the C5 of an RC of 90, however after the car had been out there for a few years many respected people in the field altered their recommendation to an RC of at least 100 due to the 20mh/hr parasitic drain in a dormant C5.

Personally, I went with the Die Hard Platinum (has an RC of 135). Its expensive (about $50 more than the Red one) and heavy (58 lbs....15 lbs heavier that a Red Top..so about as much difference as having an extra two gallons of gas in the tank) neither of which I was concerned with. Its bulletproof, will never leak and if I drain it, it takes a charge very well and remains very strong. If I kill it, its a no nonsense swap (prorated) at any Sears. Haven't had one spec of trouble with it, very satisfied.

One thing, if you do decide to go with the one I chose, when you walk in to Sears and tell them its for a C5 they are going to find that their computer recommends:

P3 75/86DT CCA 710 RC 90

That battery meets the old recommendation, and its small for the tray in the C5...will slide back and forth even with the retainer screwed all the way down.

The correct Die Hard Platinum battery for the C5 is a

P4 34/78DT CCA 880 RC 135

The P4 fits properly in our try. So just be aware of that.

I use the Walmart brand batteries. Great warranty, When I got my 00 the one that was in it was 5 years old. It lasted another year. Plus they have multiple posts to make additional aftermarket wiring easier. Plus it is cheaper than a red top and so far I have read 3 to 1 negative comments on the red top vs the walmart.

I have been using Red Tops for the past 8 years, but starting to look for something better soon. I looked at the Sears reviews and I see quite a few complaints about the side terminals falling out or failing?

Been using this battery for a couple of years now. With my power needs it was a perfect fit. After seeing friends battery issues with optima batteries I will not use them. Although it wasn't $215 for my battery when I got it, it was expensive. But it has definitely gone up in price in a couple of years. Nice strong battery though. Car sits for a while and never has starting issues when I get around to driving it (2-3 weeks at times).

I would stay away from the red top Optima batteries. I work at O'reilley Auto Parts and see a lot of those go bad. If an Optima is the one you want, go with the yellow top. My parents have Walmart batteries on both of their vehicles and they've held up well for a number of years now. I've heard from other people that Walmart is indeed a pretty good battery.

Whatever battery you go with I suggest using a trickle charger yr round no matter how much u drive the vette. I've been using the CTEK 3300 for serveral yrs now (just replaced my red top after 7yrs & it was still working, just wanted to play it safe).

Bought a Duralast Gold from Autozone in Oct 2009 and it has been flawless. Paid less than 90.00 and it comes with a great waranty, 8 years if I remenber correctly. Never had a problem starting, even after sitting for more than a month, No BS. Sears or AC Delco will give you good results too, never really heard anything bad about them, exept they cost a little more.

Try an ODYSSEY battery.

I use these after I junked the OPTIMAS.

Cant really comment on that. Mine have been done and undone a few times, I always tourque them back to spec, never had a problem. I even put aftermarket lugs on the side terminals so I can screw my Ctek charger cables to them and ran the jack out the vent on the side of the car. Reach in, hook up and good to leave, reach in, unclip and good to go. Works for me
