I'm thinking of purchasing my own so I don't have to go out to the car shop whenever I have a message on my dash.
Is there one that's better than the rest? What would you recommend? Any one customized for Corvette/C5? Sorry if this topic has been posted before. Just couldn't find one in my search so far.
I use my iPhone for OBD2 codes. That coupled with either a cable or in my case a wifi OBD2 adapter. It reads like a traditional scanner and also gives me live information while driving (speed, sensor voltage, fuel trim, rpm's, fuel economy, etc.,etc. There are several apps out there that read codes, have gauges, and g force readings and lap timers. If interested check out Dash Command, Rev, or FuzzyCar.
You have to decide how much (or little) 2 way communication you want with the subsystems for testing. The simple Actron type reader or one that can actually command things on/off for testing.
I use the one that came with the C5 and is already onboard at no extra charge and can be read through the already installed DIC (driver information center) by pushing the buttons and reading the codes. But that's just me.
