Default I need help finding AMBIENT TEMP SENSOR

My A/C will not work. I press the A/C button and it lights up, flashes a few seconds, and then shuts off on it's own.
I did some research and found this:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...-problems.html
and
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...k-at-69-f.html
The thread is old and I can't see the picture of where it's at. Could someone please help me out by taking a picture of the location of ambient temp sensor is, please?

Passenger side of the radiator opening. Small "stick" type item protruding into the open area.

If you can't find one, let me know. I've got an extra on my work bench. It was working when I pulled it out.

Problem is on my 98 is it's totally modified under the hood. It's a supercharged 383 and therefore it has aftermarket intercooler and radiator.
After your diagram I found the one on my 02 then went back to the 98 to look for something similar. I think I found the connector and it has no part attached to it. I ordered a new sensor, less than $20 shipped to me. Hopefully I found the correct connector and it's not all corroded inside.
Thanks guys,
Jay

Could you take some pictures of the sensor's plug so I can verify I'm looking at the right connector? Thanks

A little beside the point of what you are asking, but I had this same exact malfunction on my previous '99 right before Cruise In V! My first thought was, "Oh crap, there goes my trip to the 'Vette Museum!"

I was very relieved to find out that it was just that sensor, and even fixed at the dealership, was just a few bucks.

You are looking in the right area for the connector. Hope you solve it soon.

I had to replace mine a few weeks ago.

My connector was corroded and had to be replaced. I struggled to reach in and find a way to splice in the new connector since I couldn't contort my arms enough to hold the wires and make the splice. I found that if I took the connector rearward there is an opening that allowed the connector and wires to pull down a little. Then it was easy to splice the wires from under the car. Then put it all back in place and it works fine.

Good luck.

Did you find it? I had the same problem. Outside temp read 69* all the time. I could not find sensor either. Come to find out, it did not have one. I did locate the connector. Plugged it up and it worked great. Sorry but I dont remember wire colors.

Stupid question but do you have an ac compressor belt installed? My pulley & tensioner was bad and it would eat ac belts. With no belt installed, ac light would blink a few seconds & go off. I now have new pulley, tensioner, belt & sensor. Ready for summer.

It may blink also if freon is low shutting compressor off so it wont burn it up.

Good luck.

I received my parts (got both covers for door pulls too) from forum sponsor gmpartshouse (thanks guys) on Friday. It's on today's schedule for me to put the temp sensor in. I have to jack up the car to get at it. My 98 Corvette is highly modified with a supercharged 383 so I have to deal with a large radiator, intercooler, and other panels. Hopefully all I have to do is plug it in and find somewhere to mount it. I read you have to drive the car awhile before it will work though.

Also remember that the display will not update if the car was started less than 3 hours ago. You need to drive it above 20 MPH of 90 seconds or above 45 MPH for 60 seconds.

SOB
I found two damn near identical female plugs and both are lacking whatever plugs into them. They are about 8" apart. The new Sensor will plug into both, which one is it? Any pictures of your ambient temp sensor female plug would be so appreciated.
Please help.

I found 2 plugs also when I installed my new temp sensor. One would not fit exactly--it had a partition in the middle, therefore blocking complete installation of that plug into sensor connector. I think that may be the horn (mine does not have a horn yet...) If you do not have a horn either, that may be what it is.

But the other connector I found does not have the partition in the middle of the plug and it will slide right into the connector on the sensor--which is the right one.

Hope I have explained well enough to help. Good luck.

I got both C5s in the air. The blue is a 02 and the red is a 98. It's the 98 that is the problem.

The blue is pretty much stock but allot of polished SS in and out.

I found the sensor, FINALLY, on the blue one. It's about 12" away from the Corvette diagram's placement. I also found out I need to clean the radiator. Yes, there is a cup wedged up there

I figure I have a 50/50 shot. I'm going to go with the plug up front as that is where the blue car's is (can't see plug but can see sensor).

The sensor should be built into and attatched to the air damn. Passenger side of the car. There is a small notch where it should be installed.

I installed the ambient temp sensor and now my climate control displays the actual outside temperture instead of just always 69 degrees. But..........I still have this:
My A/C will not work. I press the A/C button and it lights up, flashes a few seconds, and then shuts off on it's own.
Damnit I went into the DIC and I have no codes in the HVAC section. To me, no codes would say that all sensors are okay.

99-HVAC - Heater, Ventilation, Air Conditioning

B0332 Outside Air Temp Sensor Short to GND
B0333 Outside Air Temp Sensor Open
B0337 Inside Air Temp Sensor Short to GND
B0338 Inside Air Temp Sensor Open
B0348 Sunload Temperature Sensor Open
B0361 Left Actuator Feedback Short to GND
B0363 Left Actuator Feedback Open
B0365 Right Actuator Feedback Short to GND
B0367 Right Actuator Feedback Open
B0441 Left Actuator Out of Range
B0446 Right Actuator Out of Range
B1016 Loss of Communications with PCM
U1064 Loss of Communications with BCM
U1096 Loss of Communications with IPC
U1255 Serial Data Line Malfunction

Anybody have an idea what causing my AC problem?

Try resetting them and see what returns. Also could be helpful to have the battery load tested if it's old. C5 electrical gremlins.
