Not sure where you are located, But the ac light will flash if it is cold outside and will not turn on, It has to be above a certain temp for the ac to work.

My 97 A/C does the same thing when I push the A/C button. It flashes and than goes off. My outside temperature reading is correct with actual temp. I was going to bring it down and check and see if it just needed some freon. After reading this post that might not be the answer.
