Default Tire Question

Hello Folks,
I am sure this question might of been answered in the past, so here it goes. How wide can I go (rear tires) on my Corvette?

I have a 2002 Corvette with Z06 wheels (18x10.5-Rear)

My factory rear tire size were 275/40/17 so I wanted to know how wide can I go without any problems.

If I am not mistaken, the rear stock Z06 are 295/35/18.

PLEASE HELP...THANK YOU!

Well, it is not all about tire size actually.

You can go 295 on the rear, but you also need to go with a wider wheel as the Z06 comes standard with.

Now to answer your question, without tubbing, you could probably exceed 305's, but be careful.

Good luck

Hello Allegro,

Thank you for helping me with my question-

But what is "tubbing"? And what should I be careful of?

Also, my stock rear rim size were 18x9.5 and since I got these Z06 rims, they are now 18x10.5. Does that help?

Thank you!

Tubbing is the cutting away the inner fender and adding a wider inner fender which will extend in to the read compartment.

As for the tire size the 305/35/18 will fit the rim, but you will increase the section width by a little over an inch, so it should be OK, but you may want to measure the clearance you currently have. Another point to think about is the tire stagger, that is the difference in the over all diameter. You did not say anything about the front tires, so I am assuming that you are sticking with the 245/45/17 fronts, which have an overall diameter of 25.68" and the 305/35/18 have 26.4". If this is out of tolerance for the TC and AH you will keep getting a warning. I believe these will make it, but not sure. Maybe someone else can answer that part.

Yes, the front are the stock size (17")

Would my best bet to get no bigger than 295/35/18?

Actually the 295/34/18 has a smaller overall diameter then the 305 tire. so if the 305 will fit without any rubbing, you are most likely better off with it.

So you say that I am better off with the 305's?

What is the actually tire size that I should be looking for? (i.e. 305/?/18)

Thank you!

305/30/18 would keep your overall diameter about the same as stock.
