Customer service at GM is a joke. They will indeed listen and tell you that they will do whatever they can to help; which is nothing. They do not control the dealer. For example, it's the same with real estate offices; the national HQ has a hotline and they will call the local agency for you and urge them to do whatever. They just do not have the whip to tell them to do something. Find another dealer and don't waste your time with "consumer relations."

Not all dealers are bad - mine is great and I've never had a problem with them. Guess I've been very fortunate. Sorry you are having so many problems with your dealer - I for sure would find another dealer to work on the car if you ever need any more warranty work.

If it makes you feel any better, with the crappy gas, the new ones did not last but a few months. They still work, but they are not accurate.
Uh, no it doesn't make me feel any better, but thanks for asking!

Sorry to hear about your troubles and I hope you get your Vette back in good working order. I had my jet pump and senders replaced about five years ago from the dealer I bought the car new from and they had all parts in stock and it was ready the next day and has been working fine since. Definately find a new service place, they are all not the same.

I would not put all GM dealerships in that category. The Chevy dealership I use is always prompt and the car is as clean when I get it back as it was when I dropped it off. I can same the same for teh Buick/GMC dealer that we bought the wife's GMC Acadia from.

I go to a GMC/Buick dealership service center and they aren't cheap, but the service has always been good. I even jokingly refused the loaner one time and they upgraded it even after I told them I was just being a smartass...

Find a better dealership sevice center.

Bought a Certified Tahoe about 3 weeks ago. Decided to bring it to a local dealer to have something checked out. Come to find out the dealer I purchased it at "forgot" to put in the CPO paperwork. Apparently they just put it in the system today. Took them 2 hours to get back to me, so it won't get serviced today. May take at least 24 hours to complete process. Debating whether I should go pick it up tonight because I don't trust this being worked out by tomorrow.

Best part is they tried to charge me a $400 documentation fee. Now I negotiated the price of the truck lower to cover that fee, but apparently they didn't complete the documentation!

So my story from above continues to demonstrate the crappy service:

So after realizing they forgot to submit the CPO paperwork, I remember that after I filled out all the paper work at the time of purchase, I learned that the Tahoe only had one key and keyfob. So I call the dealer general manager in VA and tell him how them forgetting to submit the paper work was a bit of an inconvenince since I dropped the vehicle off for service and can't get it serviced. Asked him if for this inconvenience he'd be willing to get me another key/keyfob. He says no - I didn't make enough of a margin on that vehicle to justify that cost. Great customer service!

Well, I call back the dealer in NJ to arrange pick up of my Tahoe and told him the story. He tells me that for a vehicle to be certified they need to provide 2 keys - not 2 key fobs, but at least 2 keys. So I asked him to print that out for me. Think I'll be faxing that to, and talking to the manager in VA tomorrow again. I'll give him second chance to make good or ask him for the contact info for the regional GM rep.

I tried to give him a chance to make good....

I concur with many of the comments that poor service is mostly dealer specific. I have had absolutely zero problems with my local Chevy dealerships performance during my 98's journeys into their service center.

I'd shop around for another dealer.

If they even inspected or reconditioned anything on the car.

The GM Cert inspection is to be signed by the service manager, sales manager and the buyer.

My gut guess is the inspection form was fabricated after the sale took place.

The problem is that GM as a company doesn't have much control over dealerships. Dealerships only care about thier profit margins and not longterm brand devaluations.

GM Customer Service was useless in my CPO isses. Even with Rick Hendrick dealership not completing service on the battery which was checked as needing service. Service manager never printed his name nor signed the inspection form. Neither was I either shown the form or allowed to sign it. The 'No worries' 'we inspect it all so you don't have to' car has been the most headache of any car I've owned. Which is sad since I've owned Dodge, VW, Audi, Benz.

GM needs to gain control over these dealerships who continually cause long term damage to the Brand.

Just an update and to tell everyone how this played out!
Four weeks and two days was how long they ended up having the car for.
Three times it had to be taken apart, fuel level sensor first, broke the plug second time, broke the fuel pump the third time!
Finally got it back, drove it for two days, and had all kinds of rattling noise coming from underneath.
Decided NOT to take it back, climbed under there myself, and this is what I found:

1, wheel nuts not tight.
2, inner fenders on wrong side of outer panels, fasteners missing, fronts hanging down.(Both sides)
3, rear e-brake lines, bolt on brackets not connected, both sides, nuts still on studs without brackets.
4, Fuel line not in support brackets, rear by tanks.
5, Exhaust pipes and mufflers only finger tight, the whole system is loose and not done up, rattling, drooping.
6, Flex plate clamp coupling not done up, loose, rattling.
7, Wiring harnesses for o2 sensors left dragging the road, all clips on both sides not back in place.

This is quality service!
Over four weeks long, and the worst quality ever!

It may not be GM directly, but it is their front door!
Do Not take your car to Dueck GM in Richmond BC if your ever up in this neck of the woods if you want it fixed right, take it elsewhere.
They also have two other locations in BC, and I can't help but believe they're all the same.
The good news is, the gas gauge works, yay!
And for those who suggested it, complaints have been filed with both GM Customer Service, and the BBB.
Glad to have my car back!!!

i would think that you could have done a better job yourself! by a long shot... as a side note one of the other dueck dealers inspected my Vette before i bought it and gave it a clean bill of health, but i have since developed some clutch/trans noise.(a few months later and less than 2000km's), go figure. glad you have your car back!

Everyone seems to be having problems with GM service. The members of the Corvette Club I belong to, all seem to have a sad dealer story. It's not just Chevrolet. Cadillac service is the reason I went from a Cadilac, to a Ford. Their service departments, have made it hard for me to buy a new GM product.

I think that alot of you do not understand how warranty work functions. The dealer is indeed encouraged to repair your vehicle if its under regular warranty or extended warranty. They do still get paid for the work just by the corporation instead of you. Cars are very complex it is very possible to miss a bolt or nut and yes sometimes when you have a car that is so low production they have to order parts for them. If you dont want to have to wait for parts drive and Impala that they make 50000000000 of a year. Welcome to the disadvantages of having a semi exclusive car. If you had a bad experience at your dealer that is not GM that is the dealer. Go to a different dealer or call GM directly to complain about the dealer. If they get enough complaints something will definitely happen to help remedy the situation.

I would have absolutely done it myself, if it weren't for the warranty I purchased, am definitely going to get that money back one way or the other!
There was a c6 getting a transmission overhaul while mine was in there, feel sorry for that dude, it isn't gonna work out well at all!

Yes, and who paid for that warranty?
If they can't honor it, then don't offer it!
They did have parts in stock when the job started, it just went downhill from there.
