Tell them at payment time you gave their money to someone else.

I hope it all works out for you, and, I DO know the frustration , but sometimes $#!+ like this happens, and you're not alone, my new tranny has been sitting at my "mech's" shop for two weeks now, and they can't get me in until July 16 for the R&R. Talk about frustration....

Good luck bro....

I wouldn't do this for the same reason you don't insult the chef if you have to send your meal back to the kitchen for some reason. That is unless you like lugi topping among any number of other things.

With a job this important, you want it done right, not by somebody pizzed off and with an attitude. I would start off by saying, "I understand you have to manage the work flow through the shop to keep things rolling, but this is a big and expensive job that I brought to you. I have been patient and understanding, but I think it's my turn and my car should be the focus now and get completed!"

The best mechanic in the world will go broke if people don't bring in work!! I was a factory trained Harley mechanic for a number of years and we always tried to get people to bring their heavy machining and engine rebuild/stroker work over the winter when we had time to really spend time on it. Do you think many of them did?!? No, they would bring it in at the beginning of riding season and want it right now!!

Sorry, but at that point, we had new-bike set-ups, tune ups, tire changes, accessory installations, and every other thing you can think of to get done!

I understand that this was not your situation, but it is the kind of thing that the shop manager and the techs face all of the time.

I also seriously understand your frustration and hope it gets resolved soon!!

that means nothing to the shop.
#1 if they didn't put some kid of time line on the papers they have no obligation to produce the car finished within reason.

#2 if they did put a timeline on paper then u have grounds for a lawyer but after getting 1 would u really want the same shop working on your car after u threaten them?

#3 kinda goes back to #2 car shop are like food joints complaining alot when only get your food spit in are your car tampered with. So u do like I do at a food joint. if its not right even thoe it cost me more I just pay for it and walk out and find me a better diner.

%60 of our cars in the shop come from other shops who do what this shop is doing to you. If u don't have patients for them to finish it just find another shop in your area and work out a price with them and a dead line before dropping it off and change shop to suit your needs.

I say get a lawyer.

I worked for years in real shops and dealerships, not imaginary shops with people playing mechanic.

Real shops start the job and FINISH the job in a timely manner, NO EXCUSES!

That's not say that the job isn't delayed by parts being ordered, but as soon as the parts come in it's completed.

NO EXCUSES! If you are in actual retail service work...take care of each customer equally!

Get a lawyer and get your car back! Those clowns may not even remember where all the parts are or how it goes back together.

^ He said this right here "..i took it to a reputable place which is very good" < which means they gonna have plenty of customers on there side

U should know that the cost of the lawyer, court and the headache cost way more than just moving it to another shop since u said u been in the business for awhile I find it hard to believe u agree on a lawyer.

OH! and just to mention most cars that come to our shop from other shops that have lawyers envolved never and I mean never come with all there parts as they suppose to because when turning it over to another shop by force the people who package it up don't give a sh**.

So heres the tab
lawyer, court, parts they lost are stole( And most people can't prove the shop stole it) and a big headache and more time without your car

VS

Just simply finding a good shop and having your car towed over there. and not paying the shop that has your car any more money other than the parts u bought and the hr's for tear down If this was a resto job like my shop does and your looking at a 135k custom frame off then I might would understand a 1k+ on a lawyer but this is not.

i couldn't imagine owning a corvette that wasn't 0-5yrs old without being able to do the work myself.

only advice i have to all of you is look for a good corvette mechanic in your area. someone skilled with the c5/c6 cars and only use them.

My mechanic wont take a car in until a slot opens up. It might take a week or two to get an appointment. He's good, he's honest, he's reasonable so I wait. He's good enough that there is always a waiting list for his services.

I'd go pick up the pieces and find a new shop to do the work.
