Wow, I did not know that Mike sold his Z06 Vert. Gary Ballard (GBVette) of Vette Barn fame helped Mike remove his top with a little help from CSVette, Cobra4b and me. It turned out amazing. I don't know how often Gary logs on but he is a wealth of information on modding Vettes; do a search on his car, it is one of the baddest Vettes on the planet.

that is funny stuff, Mark.....

i, too, have some close "friends" who love to stand around while onlookers are trying to verify its legitimacy and say things like "there's no such thing as a convertible Z06" and "this dude's such a poseur".........much to my chagrin.

i actually got tired of hearing myself explain the situation to anyone who asked that i made a show sign outlining all the Z0-specific RPO codes and features. and then i got a copy of the original window sticker from the museum and placed it in the sign.

at the end of the day, people are going to think and say what they want and that's their right, but i know what i've got so i just smile and ask what they're driving and what they've done to it to set it apart from the rest.

i'd love to make it down your way, Mark, and check out the vette scene and, more specifically, your beautifully clean Z0.......maybe someday.

peace,

rich

Not sure if its me or not. But I would rather have a z06 or FRC over my convertible. I never even put the top down. For some reason I feel more in touch with the car and in more control with the top up.

Two different threads...kinda funny. Seems it is all good if GM did it.

It's not just you. I'm always concerned with where the vette is parked and paranoid about some jerk cutting/slicing the roof.

Yep, that's why it took them 10 years to build one with a hardtop....for all the Barbies out there.

Rich:

Love to have you down here anytime...

Mike also got tired of us joking around. He made a large poster with various shots of his conversion for car shows. It showed him with a large power saw cutting the top off... He had more ***** than I would for sure... It certainly helped people realize it was a real Z06 with the top cut off....

BTW.... Funniest post ever. You have to read it to understand. This guy with a brand new ZR1 lost to Mike's custom C5 Z06 convertible at a show. He went on the ZR1 forum complaining that he lost against a plain jane C6. Read how the people just start to laugh at this guy for being so clueless.

Things turned bad for the ZR1 guy after post 38 once Mike (illmac77) chimed in. I just wish he still had all his pics up in that post...

How big of a hickey will this put on my resale value if I should ever decide to sell her (which I have no immediate plans to do)?

Pros and cons?

Thoughts?
A VERT is the best looking Vett; good luck.

what about where the roof attaches to the windshield? is that just bolted on? i feel like if the top was just bolted to the car more people would remove it.

I don't think its bolted on. The pics I saw of a conversion they had a rather large electric saw cutting across the entire top.

It is glued on. Before Mike's conversion we intalled a targa in Cobrab4's Z06. It is no fun to getting it to come off.

I hate the idea, but an alternative that I thought is pretty cool was the targa Z06 conversion. One of the members here did his like that. It was for sale on ebay a few months ago. Looks cool and I assume with the proper bracing, no less stable than a hardtop. I do think it will hurt value either way though. Why not just buy a convertible and put Z06 parts in it? Good luck with whichever way you go! It's your car, you must enjoy it!

Do it! Im going to targa mine this winter unless mister mod master GB can convince that the vert + targa option isn't too much crazier than just the targa...

I think the roof is epoxied to the winshield and there are 8 screws that hold the back end of the roof to the body.

Not something I would do... Your car, but why not just sell it and buy one that came from the factory as a convertible?

Yes it is and he just re-did it. Its absolutely AMAZING. He has pics out on another site if you search around on GBVette. He said he is taking it up to Carlisle this weekend for the GM Nationals.

I'd say go for it.

When I get around to it, I'm converting mine to a Targa, no ifs, ands or buts about it, I want darn Targa'd Z haha.

There's a forum member who has his own shop/business and recently decided to add the Targa modification to his list of things he would offer customers. He performed the mod on his own Z (at least I think it's his Z) with fantastic results and hopes to pin down the costs well below what Caravaggio was offering. Can't remember the name but a quick search may get a hit.

Either way, good luck with the decision.
