Well after being a committed Mobil 1 man since I bought the car I'm going to give Amsoil a try. I doubt I'll see much difference but it's the only other GM4718M oil I can find locally
It was a shock to the wallet though. 7 litres just cost me £92 ($150)
$150- is what I pay for TWO complete Mobil 1 oil changes at the dealership....$45- retail just for the oil and $25- for the labour. At the end of the day it is just an oil change...has no impact on quality of life, unless the cost cuts into your grocery and rent money!! lol. You must have too much spare change. Greetings, Rob

That is a lotta money... I've been using Amsoil myself, but damn, 7 quarts (ASLQT), and a filter cost me $75, plus $20, install. I really can't say I've seen any improvement in anything. I'm not the type of guy who watches "miles per gallon," unless it drops to some ridiculous number (never happened), showing something is wrong.

On top of the oil change I need to add another $20 for the filter but at least my own time is free.
Wish I was "wasting" the spare change but thats what GM spec compliant oil costs in England. Mobil 1 is just about the same price and my gas costs $8.50 a gallon; about $125 for a full tank.
I asked about a lap dance but they said I'd been screwed enough already

That's one very high price for an oil change. England is a nice place to visit, but glad I don't have to pay that kind of money for either the oil change or the gasoline.
Damn those British taxes on everything are high, must be for the free Healthcare
I used Amsoil and instead of changing at 5k I did it at 10k and did a filter change at 5k, topped off and I did not see a difference, I did this for 20k before I boosted my C5.
On the C6 I am using Mobil 1, when I boost it I will use Royal Purple and do changes 2-3k like I did when I boosted my C5.
$8.50 a gallon is close to race gas prices here, I will now enjoy my $3.50 for 93 and in your honor I will do some massive pulls to suck up some petro in your name
you wont see any difference unless you send in a used sample of mobil 1 and then run a different oil the exact same amount of miles and send in another sample.

I bet you can get oil shipped from Summit a lot cheaper that that, The only thing is you would have to plan ahead.

Gezzz doc, damn sure you won't find me paying a $150. for oil that is supposeable better than Mobil-1 5W/30
Good luck, let me know if anything changes. I think a lot of use would like to get the "Man in the street opinion?" I don't like to badmouth Amsoil, but I just can't pay that much for an oil the bearly has 3K miles on it when it's changed once a year. If I was Jay Leno it might be a different issue.
