Summit Racing matched and beat Discount Tires for my NT05's. Just throwing that out there.

yep, summit will also price match. but, then you have to go get em mounted and balanced locally.

for someone who doesn't have a discount locally this a good option though

Very true, I didnt know they included the mount and balance. Thats probably the best route.

discount? they don't

but they will match anyone online. so if you find tire x for $100+15 shipping online that's $460 a set. summit or discount will sell you the tires for 460

with summit you have to cart your tires down somewhere local and get them mounted. with discount you simply don't have to cart the tires anywhere. you still pay the mount fees but in the end it's the same price

I got the C5 sized Hankook V12's from Discount Tire Direct. They were $658 minus the $80 Hankook and $100 Discount Tire Direct rebates = $478. I got access to free mounting and balancing.

I couldn't resist what I though was good pricing even though I am not putting them on the car until later this year.

Just had a new set of Hankook Ventus V12 EVO K110s put on mine yesterday. Had run them before and was very pleased with the quality, handling, ride, minimal noise, etc. Plus they were very inexpensive ($646 + $80 mail in rebate).

Very good deal. By C5 size you mean 275/40/18 and 245/45/17?

I got my NT05 285/35/18's and 255/40/17's for $465 total. But this kind of deal takes a little Craigslist and eBay combined.

Just relplaced the Michelin Pilot Sport tires on my 2000 convertible. The Michelins were on the car when I bought it last year and, in my personal opinion, they sucked. I also had Michelin Pilot Sports on my wife's 06 Sonata and they sucked on it also. Tons of road noise and, to me,that is a factor. Neither of our vehicles are used for pure performance. They are used for general purpose and travel in wet and dry conditions.

I put Sumitomo tires on the vette and Yokohama tires on the Sonata. Read tons of reviews on line concerning both brands of tires. People who had been running these tires were quite satisfied with tire performance in wet, dry and light snow conditions. I don't have enough history to recommend either set of tires to anyone but am currently satisfied on both vehicles. My son and I were riding in the vette last Thursday and he mentioned that he was amazed at how there was no road noise from the tires. He had ridden in the car previously and was aware of my complaints.

The Yokohamas at directional and the Sumitomos are asymetric tread design and mount with a specific inside and outside but are non directional. We will see how it goes.

I'm a relatively new C5 owner but after reading and talking to some fellow C5 guys I put on the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's and have been thrilled with them. Quiet and grip like nothing else I've ever had wet or dry.

this isn't directly aimed at you

but

you guys need to get this "brand business" out of your head. most every brand has made great and not so great tires. also anything new will be better than 8yr old hardened tires. performances tires have a 3 year life give or take before they start really going downhill. brands like yokohama make wonderful tires like the advan ad08, they also make POS tires like the parada. how about kumho? the xs is fast! very very competitive tire. the ast? light it on fire, worthless tire.

in other words brand has little bearing on how good a tire really is.

if you go sport tire hunting a lot of good information can be found looking at multiple makes of cars and what tires are placing high in street autocross. for stock c5 sizes the bridgestone re-11 really doesn't have a competitor until you get into R comps. for z06 sizes the NT05 also has no rival until you get into r comps.

so, in the end. do research {in multiple places and on multiple forums} if you really care. a lot of tire threads are full of guys who buy something new, love it way more than their old tires and recommend them. is that bad? not really, but is it your best possible use of money when tire shopping? probably not

I've owned 2 C5's and neither had the original runflats on them so I can't compare non flats to run flats on a C5. However, I had a BMW with runflats that I replaced with non runflats and it was not the dramatic improvement I was expecting. If I had to do it all over again I would have kept the runflats. Maybe with the Vette the change would be significant but it sure wasn't in my 325. I currently run Hankooks on the C5 and they are a nice tire.

Understood and no offense taken. As I posted originally I don't have enough history with either of these tires to make a recommendation to anyone else.

I am currently running General Exclaim UHP. Very pleased with them and should get at least 40k with them, currently at 31k. General no longer makes the Exclaim, but when I'm due for new, I plan on their replacement with General G-Max AS-03, UHP All-Season. They seem to be rated just like the Exclaim, just have a new tread design.

And I think you'll like the price.

They are running a discount rebate again from today through July 2nd.

It does not cover all brands though. It might not include Nitto or Hankook, but see the promotion for details.

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...ns.do?pgid=638

I talked with DTD and the rebate applies to all tires even though their rebate offer details page shows only some brands. I ordered a set of tires for my wife's daily driver today.

I went with Michelin Pilot Super Sports (Summer) and I cannot imagine a better tire for my circumstances -- rarely gets below freezing & snows every 20-25 years or so. It's quiet & handles great, and has a good treadwear.
