yes, but not why you'd think.....

The coupe offers the best of both worlds, a vert you either like or you don't.
This is basically an opinion poll so here's my thoughts........
Comparing a Coupe to a vert is silly. Taking the top off a coupe is NOT, I repeat NOT the same as putting the top down on a Vert. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Coupe lovers go ahead and unite and keep saying whatever but it won't change reality. I've had targas and t-tops so I DO know the difference.
Now that I have that fire going well, whether you'd trade one for the other depends on what YOU intend to do with YOUR car. I have, and I LOVE, a vert but I am on the verge of trading it out for a coupe (probably going up to a C6 GS but that isn't the point) for one simple reason. I have beeen bitten by the HPDE bug and a vert doesn't belong there without full roll protection. That won't happen to my showcar vert so I'm off to find a replacement.

Plain and simple, The Coupe is the best of both worlds in my opinion.

Of my five 'Vettes, my '90 was a triple black roadster. It was gorgeous!!! The lines of a C4 roadster are immaculate!!
I have also had a Mustang 'vert as well, and while I enjoyed having the top down on both of them, I was always worried about the security and vandalism aspects of convertibles.
Just never could get okay with the thought of what a quick knife slash could do!
I understand what you are saying. Nothing like having a convertible a six speed and built motor. But that's what makes it cool we are all different. I have always wanted a Z06 and did not care about the top. To me that just is part of a Z06! I want a C5 Z06!!
It really doesn't matter what other people think it is what you like. If it feels good do it! Lol
Vert wins, its just more openness, easier to operate, wont fly off if you forget to lock it in, looks amazing with it down, and living in California its used all the time especially because its so simple, and i feel that i use the trunk space more because i dont have to see all the crap i have back there lol
i dont take the targa off since its annoying to do if your just going for quick drives around town.

yeah vandalism is scary but good insurance coverage to keep my mind at ease and a quick knife to the panels will also cause as much $$$ in paint even panel replacement than a used or even new convertible top.
well that's what i told myself before i bought my convertible lol
Didn't mean to start a war. What I was thinking more of is the price differential. Everyone wants their favorite flavor and I respect that. Maybe he figures to get a newer or lower mile coupe in trade? BTW, the car he has looks pretty nice.
I also agree about the track day thing and considered that as a definite factor. Decided I have done it with the other cars, gets expensive, I'm getting old and just wanted an awesome cruiser.

An assassination started a world war and on this forum a question whether to buy a convertible or a coupe brings on the opinions which start another world war. Personally, I have owned both and came to my decision by "trial and error." Make a decision, sir (as I told my CO more time than not during my military carerer) and, hopefully, you'll hit it right the first time. And if not, you can always try again.
If I didn't have a vert, I wouldn't have a vette. Wouldn't own a stick car anymore, so a Z06 is out. Targas don't look bad, but if I owned one I'd never have the roof off. I tried to take one off by my self and found it too hard for me to do it all the time. My old GTA was a T top car and those are much more noisey than a vert. I personally wouldn't consider trading for a coupe.
I would not own a vette that was not a convertible. To me, the meaning of a spots car, is more of a open car,as in roadster.I love mine and will never part with it.

Hard to say whether I would trade a vert for a coupe - all I've owned is 3 C5 coupes. I got them because (1) they were cheaper in price than a comparable vert, (2) I like the targa roof and the extra storage space in the coupe, and (3) I like the looks of the coupe better than the vert. That there are different likes out there is the reason GM made the different body styles.
