I actually talked to this guy when I was looking for mine. I considered buying it outright but found a better deal. Looked like a nice car though and I also couldn't figure why he would want to trade a convertible for a coupe.

Coupe, vert or FRC is a personal choice. I love vert with with top down but so much with the top up. The FRC Z06 is pure horsepower but I can't imagine owning a Vette without being able to take off the top. In my opinion the coupe is the best looking of the three and the best compromise. If a guy wants horsepower the FRC is the way to go. For pure open air cruising the vert is the way to go. For me the coupe was the best way to go but that's just a personal preference. Your mileage may vary.

O love my vert, consider it the only Vette option for me. I may be wrong, but storing targa top kills your storage...I can have my top down and still have a decent size trunk.

I have a coupe and like it for all the reasons mentioned above.

The only thing I might add it that when I have the roof off of my coupe there is a TON of wind noise at 70 mph.

Are the verts quieter?

I have a coupe, and I never wanted a roadster. I would say the main reason in west central Florida there are only a few times a month that you can really enjoy it. In the summer even with the air going, it is just to hot to have the top down with all the traffic we have here. Now if I lived else where I might think about it. Also because the top would be up most of the time, I have never found the roadster with the top up as nice looking as the coupe.

I'd like to have both a coupe and vert, but the vert will be much lighter and more "connected" than my coupe. When I drive topless, I want to experience sight, sound, and feel of the open road. I do tend to leave the tinted targa on, most of the time (music sounds better that way) but for those times when I want full openness, a light (2500 lbs or less) roadster rules (one of these days.....)

Never rode in a coupe so can't compare. I have run the interstate with the top down and will say it's much more comfortable than my other two roadsters. Also kinda strange is the exhaust is noticeable with the top up but very faint with it down.

I thought of a comparision from back in ancient history. Coupe with the roof section off is kinda like the girl I once took out that let me take her top off but the pants stayed. Vert is...well.....obviously more fun.

Comparing a Coupe to a vert is silly. Taking the top off a coupe is NOT, I repeat NOT the same as putting the top down on a Vert. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Coupe lovers go ahead and unite and keep saying whatever but it won't change reality. I've had targas and t-tops so I DO know the difference.

Now that I have that fire going well, whether you'd trade one for the other depends on what YOU intend to do with YOUR car. I have, and I LOVE, a vert but I am on the verge of trading it out for a coupe (probably going up to a C6 GS but that isn't the point) for one simple reason. I have beeen bitten by the HPDE bug and a vert doesn't belong there without full roll protection. That won't happen to my showcar vert so I'm off to find a replacement.
That's one opinion. I've had both (admitedly not a VETTE vert, but please...) I don't see the vert top-down difference as nearly great enough to pick one over a targa. This is pretty much a unique choice for Vette buyers these days since Porsche no longer offers Targas.

Your central point is 100% correct. Always drive both then decide.

Ah -- a Miata in your future, perhaps? Or an S2000?

I went the other way, coupe to convertible.

I disagree with those that say a coupe is the best of both worlds. At best it's a compromise. IMHO, they are so different that a comparison is apples and oranges.

I liked the coupe, but like the convertible better. It's just a personal preference.

I was very unsure buying my vert, as I had never owned a convertible before. I don't regret it one bit. I feel boxed in with the top up. I even park mine in the garage with the top down because 90% of the time when I drive it I drive with the top down.

NOW, mine isn't a daily driver, its a weekend toy. For a daily driver, I don't know that I would pick a vert over a coupe or FRC. I do think coupes are neat, but not near a replacement for a vert, and I think storing the targa top makes the ordeal a pain.

Also the wind and road noise in my vert is much much less than I had anticipated. I can still have conversations at 65mph (honestly the wind noise picks up a lot at 70+ mph). Exhaust sounds better with the top down.

Having the top down is NOTHING like having a sunroof or targa top or T-tops IMO. They're also much much noisier and windier.
