I have to remove the ac controller and repair the loose resistors. So with the console off and it already being in my new shop, now is a good time to replace the stock c5 shifter with a new C6 Z06 shifter. (best excuss to start a few upgrades)
I have searched this forum and I know some one has already done this upgrade, but have not found a good write up on this simple modification.
I want to retain the stock C5 shift ****. Has anyone installed the stock c5 shift **** on a C6 shifter? I also want to keep the stock C5 boot, which should not be a problem if I keep the stock ****. Right? Any hints from some one who has done this before?
Go to RSD site & check out their Snap shifter.
It comes with the c6 shifter box & shifter complete as a unit.
The shifters shaft is threaded to the c5 specs.
You can use any c5 **** or an aftermarker c6knob with the c5 threads.
i just installed a 08 c6 z06 shifter into my c5z..and i went with the stock 2012 z06 shift ****...not sure why you want want to keep the stock c5 ****..the c6 one feels soo much better
If I can't find a good used C6 shifter ****, I'll just order one from the dealer. I get good prices from them. A new one should be less than $80.
Why did I want to stay with the stock C5 ****? I want the car to look as stock as possible. For now. It's not worth the trouble to put the C5 **** on the C6 shifter handle.
Paul, that looks great.
My 2010 Z06 shifter in my 02 Z06 with a C6 shifter boot.
So I've heard u cannot retain the stock c5/c5z06 boot without modification to it. I've seen a thread on here on cutting stitches and what have you, and I'd rather not do that unless it's super simple... I know u can order these through gene at gm parts direct for $194 how much more for the c6 boot? Is it a direct fit in there? I too am shocked there is no write up on this yet as well

Why don't any one listen to the suggestion of buying the RSD Snap shifter????
It is a GM C6 shifter, complete with brand new GM shifter box with C5 threads on the shaft.
If one would want to install a C6 **** onto it, there are after market C6 ***** that has the C5 threads.
Go to their web site (RSD) to see how they recommend shortentening the top side of the boot without cutting any stitches.
Oh, and you don't have to change to a C6 boot to install a C6 shifter into your C5.
2008 Z06 Shifter & ****, and a custom boot from one of the vendors in here. The **** fits the palm of you hand 1000% better (more comfortable) then the large square edge truck **** the C5 came with. Night & Day difference. The shifter is a tad shorter and angled back towards the driver, make shifting easier. The **** fits the C5 interior just fine, looks stock, and looks like it should have come with the C5Z from the factory.

I just installed the 427 short shifter a couple of days ago and it's a great improvement over the stocker. I installed the black Delrin corvette shift ****, and plan to do the Ranger clutch flush this weekend. It's all good here.
Ok guys Bumble z is spot on I used to make these shifters for RSD and TPS they are the exact same ok. Here is the reason you want to put a C6Z06 shifter in your C5 it is newer the handle has a better design. The lower box has better bushings in the box then the C5 box. The handle on the C6 has been bent to 12deg. To give it a better feel then the straight up shaft the C5 has. Once you modify the C6 shift you can't use the C6 handle if you contact RSD or TPS they can get you a stock unit which will allow you to use the stock C6 ****. As for your boot you can use your stock boot with the short throw you don't have to get a new one it will work either way.
Well I ordered the stock c6 shifter and can't wait to get it! If I need to shorten it I will cut it... But I had a c6 before my c5z06 and was very pleased with the stock shifter (height and throw)
