Thanks to everyone for their thoughts about mom.

She was almost 95 and was ready. We'll miss her, however she's in a better place.

FWIW,
I found a safe place to pull over, opened the window, pulled down the visor, turned on the mirror light, placed both hands in plain sight, on the wheel, and said nothing unless asked. His first question was, where was I headed? He then asked for license and insurance card. I gave him both and my carry permit and told him I had a piece (9MM) in the trunk, unloaded and in a case (it was Illinois ).

Am truly sorry for your loss sir. And yes, 95 is a blessing.
Glad you had a positive experience with that LEO. And you're correct. Attitude is everything. Also glad he was kind enough to warn you of possible traps ahead

I'm sorry for the loss of your Mom, it sounds like you had her for a good long time and she is in a better place.

Two weeks ago my wife and I were returning from California on US 50 in Western Utah when I discovered Utah Highway Patrol drove white crew cab Chevys. I had just passed a sign that said, "next services 83 miles" and it was only 85 degrees. I had some soft jazz playing, a frosty beverage in the cup holder, the AC on and my main squeeze was reading a book. The cruise control was set at 85 mph even though the posted speed limit was 65 mph. I was humble and polite and he was generous by giving me a ticket for doing 70 in a 65 zone. Cost me $90 and I was happy about it.

Okie

If you can keep the speeding tickets off your record, paying the fine is just part of the deal. Think how many times you deserved a ticket and didn't get one! We are all way ahead of the game!

Sorry for your loss. Had a funny experience with a friend years ago. We took out a Hemi car from the Toy Box and ran a little "hot". Got pulled over and the guy really liked the car. It was a 1967 Hemi GTX. We just got a warning. We took the Hemi back and exchanged it for a Shelby Cobra (the 2 seater from the mid 60's). We were driving in the same area and being "good". Got pulled over and the officer walked up to the car and said "you guys again?". We said yes and he said he just wanted to see the car. Nice guy and great to talk to. Glad we were good, or he would have been correct to ticket us.

I agree. I think stats support that fact and the LEO was acting on those stats.

Sorry to hear about your mom.

these "stops" never seem to happen at the best times

But if you got off with just a warning for 12 over; then the officer was being nice.

My wife got her very first ticket in 40 years of driving last month. It was for 60 in a 55 zone of 4 lane, non interstate, rural highway.

We both have a lot of respect for LEOs and the job they do...and she WAS speeding, but in this case, she said the cop was just a dick...

BTW, I never got a warning. All I get is, "License and registration, please", and 3-4 minutes later I get them back.....along with a ticket. Not that I've gotten many tickets, 3 in 44 years of driving, all for speeding, and for only 5-10 over. But driving a performance car has NEVER gotten me any breaks.

My wife and myself were going on interstate 10 heading west for lunch. I was in the left lane going 65 in a 55 zone. The DPS officer pulled me over gave me a ticket. I had a black pickup next to me and a compact in front of me going the same speed. I ask him why he singled me out and he told me that I had an aggresive driving vehicle. The ticket was $182.00.

Not knocking the honest hard working type. I am knocking the type like the one around here who just got fired for being drunk and firing his service weapon. At least he was off duty. I could spend hours on some of the idiots they give badges to, but why waste my time? I'm not buying the 99.9 % figure.

Sorry to hear about your Mom rejoice in her life and know Mom was looking over you right then and their. Five yrs ago My Father inlaw passed away and I had to go to Sac. airport to drop off my sister inlaw after he passed away. I dropped her off and started back home 5:30 in the morning was on Hwy 99 south in Cali. and was driving my 2000 Chevy truck. I was pulled over by a Highway Patrol on a Motorcycle after I stopped he walked up to the passenger window and asked me WTF I was doing and thinking he had been following me for over 6 miles with his lights and siren on and I didnt even see or hear him. I told him I was preoccupied with thought and how I had just taken my sister inlaw to the airport and that Pops had died and I was just driving. He asked for my lic. reg. and ins. came back and said slow down pay attention and 85mph is not safe. I said thanks and 5 miles down the road he was behind me again and I knew it, they have a heart and I felt it. I also knew Pops was watching over me.
