I was returning to Tennessee from Iowa on July 4th. I had just attended my mom's funeral the previous day and was on US 34 heading towards Galesburg Ill. and the interstate.
It was 4:30 in the morning and the road was pretty much empty. The LEO said he clocked me at a whoppping 67 in a 55. After going through all his proceedures he told me to drive safe as there would be a lot of speed traps on my way home. It's a wonder I wasn't doing 90...
and yes 12 over no matter the time of day is still 12 over...in the end you got a warning...actually 2....perhaps the 2nd one saved you from a less friendly LEO down the road
Good experience (with police). I have had two instances where police gave me warnings in my Corvette (38 mph in a 25 mph zone and 40+ mph in a 35 mph zone).
One police said these cars look like they are speeding when they are sitting still. Other police said, "good looking Corvette".

Sorry for the loss of your Mom. It was nice that the LEO just gave you a warning - a ticket would have been a real kick in the gut all things considered.
I was born in Galesburg, so you are lucky that you don't call that home. Also sorry for your loss, I think about my mother everyday and she's been gone for sometime now. As a friend told me " you may have a lot of dads in your life but you will only have one mom".
It pays to always be polite and understanding...it's his job and like what said before he was looking more for DUI candidates at that time of night....and sorry for your loss...it's never easy Phanni
Cops in my part of the state are about 50/50... I've passed speed traps doing more than 12 over the limit without anything more than a wave or thumbs up to the Corvette.
On the other hand... I've been pulled over and given a written warning for going 71 in a 65.
The paperwork is the same regardless so when I was working traffic I would only write tickets for the outrageous ones. The ones I knew were going to get thrown out anyway I didnt want to waste my time with the paperwork and reports afterwards.
