DIC screen will only display mileage......
Greetings,
Did a search and didn't find any help with this issue. I'm posting for a friend with a 1999 coupe with 63K for mileage. It's an auto tranny.
When he starts the engine the DIC displays the usual greeting and then goes to his mileage display. He can't call up any gauge info, trip display, English/Metric display etc.
He thinks the trouble started when he got a message telling him it was time to change the oil. After the oil was changed he could not reset the % display and used the gas pedal method, prees it four times, to clear the message. He tells me from that point on the only thing that comes up in the DIC is his mileage. It updates as he drives the car.
I've checked his fuses and all seem fine. We disconnected the battery for ten minutes hoping it might reset something, it didn't. I can't pull any codes because holding in the option button and pressing the fuel button does nothing.
None of the buttons seem to be sticking. Not sure what to try next. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Ask a moderator to move this thread to the Tech section. Look in the passenger footwell under the floor cover at the BCM for evidence of water on, in or around the BCM. You need a code reader in order to clear the offending code, if there's even something there but it doesn't sound like it. Possible too that the DIC controls have actually failed. BTW, give each doorjam connection rubber tube a good shake and see if things come back to normal. How old is the battery and can you measure it with a handheld meter with the ignition off?

Could it just be that the part that has all the DIC control buttons on it is bad? If when he pushes all of them nothing changes, that's where I would look.

Without the onboard diagnostics you need to plug in a code reader and check the codes and post them up.
I checked the connector pin diagrams but no joy there.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll take another look at the panel under the passenger side footwell and I'll mess around a little more with the pod that holds all the buttons. It's possible one is stuck but I doubt my friend will be that lucky.
I'll post this issue in the Tech section as well.
